Single monitor - the window layout thread

Ok,

the idea of this thread is to get new ideas how to optimize the clutter of all those windows on a single monitor.

I want to maximize the actual viewing area, but still have as much informative panels visible as possible.

So, this is my current layout on a 1920x1200 monitor for soloing.

+ pretty efficient
+ Selected Item-window is close to Overview
- requires tabbing between Log and Scanner

Fleet window comes to the bottom left corner (our fleets are tiny), local and cargo bay (not open on all ships) move up. Also I close local when in w-space.

Please post yours and a few words about it!

I don't understand why so many people use 800s instead of navy 400s on myrms. Is there something I'm missing or are people that fly myrms mostly ********?

Other EVE players are always tarded :)

Anyway my reason: I've never ran out of charges in a fight (that's a Med NOS II), I'm a cheapskate and we produce 800s in our wh POS and finally: Navy 400s have bad karma. Whenever I have them in my cargo, I get alphaed without even having a chance to use them.

People post more screenshots Lol use imgur or similar to host it.

Hrm, that's interesting what you did with Local. I've always had it on top of my main chat window.

I play on a laptop so conservation of space is an issue, being a mariner, I can't just tote a big monitor and powerful computer everywhere I go. So this is an interesting thread to me, even though everyone else wants to be off-topic.

I keep the overview about as thin as possible, but with angular velocity added so I can track my speed tank. D-scan close to my overview to minimize mouse travel when spamming scan, and changing targets. I use hotkeys so the location of the hud isn't such a big issue, but I still want it close to the overview to minimize mouse travel when I need to overhead, or when lag forces me to mouse click the buttons because the f keys stop working mid-battle.

In general I think a taller overview is better than wide for when you have target saturation it is easier to scroll and designate the best targets.

If i'm in a fleet the fleet window gets overlapped a bit. Lesse about taking a picture.

edit http://www.ishnar.net/images/overview.jpg there. As you see, I play windowed so I can quickly adjust teamspeak and browse the forums and whatever else I need to do. To conserve space several windows are overlapped but can be brought forward with a single click, and transparency allows me to read through a top window.

I'll post mine tomorrow if I can. I'm on an iPad now. Basically, my capacitor and module buttons stay in middle. Overview and selected item windows bottom left - I have targets dragged to bottom above module buttons - right next to selected item window...

What would like to know: I have 2 Samsung 27s, but I run my client on one screen. How do you guys split one client between two screens so chats and other random crap is on the second? Other than stretching the desktop - which would put a horrid break in the middle...

1920 x 1200 Single screen

Would still love to hear how people split one client between 2 screens.

Yours feels lot less cramped than mine, thanks for sharing.

I've also forgotten that it's possible to rearrange the overview columns - knew this thread will be very useful!

I wish they could introduce a "short version Log", the damage notification is so damn long that it makes my log/scan window too big.

This is going to sound terribly newbie, but how the hell to you move the capacitor hud up to the top of the screen? I can only move it side to side.

R-click the small striped box near the right bottom of the HUD for options, choose "Align top". Other useful options there too!

Oh I didn't realize you could sticky the log and people and places too. Very helpful. Thanks!

Though I will say I use combat logs in other mmo, but I find eve's pretty useless except for post-fight analysis. I'll try to use it again.

To OP. How did you make the local list contain no portraits? Thanks.

@ Hrett,

I find the log useful for checking hit quality, but especially to see who is hitting me (most). The notifications just flash away too quickly in a fight with many ships to be really informative.

@ Diesel,

It's a new option added by the mighty Punkturis, available from the channel r-click menu, called smthng like "Use compact member list mode". Absolutely brilliant feature imho.

I unfortunately cannot contribute right now, but this is a pretty cool thread and gave me some good ideas.

Guess I know what I'm doing when I get home tonight.

Only problem I see is the local channel is not up front and personal.
