How's the Taranis doing nowadays solo?

I know the Taranis has always been a solid ship and it has been one I've been planning to train for a while now. But since I just came back from a fairly long break(6 months or so) I'd like to make sure it's doing okay before taking the plunge and training the skills.

With the solo pvp goal in mind, would you guys say go ahead and try the Taranis, or perhaps one of the recently buffed AFs would be a better choice?

Other stuff has gotten better in the interim.

AFs got buffed, faction frigs got buffed, pirate frigs got buffed.

The ranis is still an interceptor with the advantages that has but the AFs, comet and DD have all gotten better in the interim and to my mind something like the Enyo is a much more complete package.

I see. I'll definitely take a look around a bit more, especially at the AFs, before committing to a skill path. I actually heard the Minmatar AFs(the ones I could get into easier) are a bit subpar now, or is it more just that they're balanced compared to the other AFs than before?

I don't have evemon yet but I'd say at least 23+ days to get it going decently. Which isn't much time for eve, but it also took me 5 minutes to write this post and it already looks like I'm going to be checking out other options.

word
depending on your mapping and previous training (elec engi science etc..) you can set yourself up with several options to try with minmal training. then you are only limited by your wallet.

I dunno. Not heard that they are sub-par. They both still have some superb attributes and are still quite capable of winning fights.

If you want a gallente frigate, or frigate in general, to solo in, you really can't beat the Enyo right now.

Wont say avoid it for solo but for catching and killing other ceptors its still king of all frigates.

However since af buff, your targets are even more limited.

An enyo can get 10k ehp and same dps as a taranis, now with no sig boom.

However if you want to fly a real brawling af harpy > all.

Simple fact 9k ehp, 60% resists all over, 250dps with "NULL" and it can hit to 10.5km with ZERO damage loss.

Its unkitable in scram range, has the same ehp as other af's but twice the range and more dps over that said range.

The blaster Taranis is still amazing. You can engage pretty much anything but Enyos (twice your tank, more damage, same range, you die) and drone-bonused ships. Fights are nasty, brutal, and short -- nothing can tank you, but your manliest of manly hull tanks will not last for long. Your tiny sig and incredible speed with the AB, however, mean you can effectively solo a small gang of maybe 10 people, killing the tacklers and smugly warping away. The main thing is that you need to not hesitate, ever, or you will die. Never try to run from tacklers, either -- you will die; it's much faster to kill them. If the situation turns to SUDDENLY 5 RECONS DECLOAKING then oh well, you're out a few million. When fighting frigates, don't orbit -- hit approach and fly manually a bit to minimize range and transversal, mainly range. Your tank is your damage, so maximize it.

The Enyo is very similar and very fun -- its additional tank and gank mean you can do so much more. Dictors drop very easily, and you should still be able to run away if you heat your MWD.

Taranis fit: http://veto.eve-kill.net/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=12942925 (Use a t2 MAPC if you can; I just use a b66 because I am a low SP scrublord)
Enyo fit: http://veto.eve-kill.net/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=12980816 (Remember that your guns use cap. You can't shoot drones if you have 0 cap. Neuts are your one hard counter.)
