AFK Miners need more sound effects and voice messages

It takes 9 minutes of mining to fill my hold. For me, that is not 9 minutes of boredom but it is 9 minutes of cleaning house, cooking, reading newspaper, petting the cat, playing with Guinea pigs, doing laundry, whatever

My computer volume is turned up high enough that I can hear the strip miners running.
  • If I hear alien radio chatter, I know that I need to defend my ship.
  • If Eve announces that the asteroid is depleted, I need to go target a new asteroid.
  • If the strip miners stop making noise, I go press the button to dock and unload
  • Some things I do not hear.
  • If suicide gankers come to the belt looking for bots, I do not hear them.
  • If they try to hail me, I do not hear it.
  • If they try to bump me, I do not hear it.
  • If they target me, I do hear that.
  • If they blow me up, well I did hear that
  • While I hate losing a ship, I do not hate the suicide gankers. There was a time when the asteroid belts were stripped clean before I ever logged in. How can you call it an asteroid belt if it has no asteroids? I have to thank the gankers for chasing the bots, and a special thank to the gankers who take the time to see if I am human I am asking that miners be given more audio information so that they can mine safely and effectively without sitting in front of the screen.
  • Tell me if a crystal has failed.
  • Tell me that a new craft has arrived in the belt.
  • Tell me that I am about to collide with another ship.
  • Tell me that my mortal enemy is now on radar.
  • Tell me that I am being hailed.
  • Tell me that I am being jammed.
  • Tell me I need to go to battle stations for rats have entered the belt.
  • Tell me what I need to know to do the mining

  • For me, mining is a very small part of the game. Mining is what I do when I should be doing something else.

So basically, what you want, if I'm reading your post correctly... Is all the visual and auditory cues that comes with actively playing the game -- while not actively playing it? I mean, from everything you've posted, you're like... two steps away from being a bot or a script.

    Just saying...

Right now I am reading and writing on the forum with Eve running in background. I also spend more time looking at spreadsheets than actually looking at the Eve client. I rather enjoy mining in the asteroid belts while taking care of mundane things in RL. All I am asking for are audio queues that will wake me up when I fall asleep on the keyboard while mining.

i can't see a reason why this shouldn't be implemented

I would rather CCP just deposit the ISK I could make mining while I am not actually mining directly into my wallet, cause actually mining, refining, and selling the minerals requires too much effort for me to get other stuff done in RL.

In this game, the second favorite thing for me to do is patrolling the border in 0.0 with friends in my dread Vigil of death (I tackle battleships). My most favorite thing to do is sneak across someone else's border in 0.0 with friends. I also do salvage, R&D, manufacturing, run missions with friends, buy low, sell high, produce Integrity Response Drones using planet stuff. I think mining is on the bottom of my list but my factory needs the minerals and I need to do the laundry.

Sounds would not help the bots or the scripts but it would help the humans.

Total immersion in the game, I am living in the asteroid belt and I am doing my laundry while I am in the asteroid belt. When I look out the window of my monitor, I can see the asteroids and nebula. Gotta go, heard some alien chatter on the radio, I best be launching my drones.

you haven't developed the zen mining skill I see.. I've done housework for years while mining. it's important that you develop 3 minute "muscle" memory so that no matter what you are doing you know 3 minutes is up. My friends are always amazed that I know exactly when short times that are multiples of three minutes pass.

Erm the last time I looked, it was called EvE ONLINE not EvE AFKINSPACECANSOMEBODYGIVEMEAPRODWHENINEEDTODOSOMETHING Roll

Seriously, sounds when your mortal enemy turns up? sounds when ships enter the belt? etc etc

I'll give you a 2/10 for a well constructed post and not just a wall of text, but apart from that learn to mine, you know, eve's meant to be interactive, you need to pay attention and keep an eye on what's going on.

It sounds like you want to just do away with all the human stuff and run a bot but don't want to get caught.

How on earth can a system tell you when a suicide ganker is in the belt? have you got a list of them somewhere? or do you run it off sec status (I see plenty of Yellow industrialists around)

"Tell me I need to go to battle stations for rats have entered the belt" wtf? I give up, just ask ccp for a few hundred million isk and go buy the minerals, it seems like actually doing something for it seems too much like hard work for you.

Just unsub now. You clearly do not want to play the game anyways.

  • Please no. I don't want to spend hours listening to that same sound over and over while running missions. I can settle for adding a sound to convo-request pop-ups, since I rarely really see them either, even though I'm sitting at my computer, but that would be it. No sound is needed to alert us about being close to crashing into something.

I'm not in the 'afk mining' club but I have a query regarding sound effects.

The sound effects were improved immensely not long ago for strip miners, mining drones, tractor beams, & salvagers. In particular the sound effects for tractor beams and salvagers were made very impressive imo - *waits for the 'Does EVE have sound effects?' comment*.
At the moment on my client these improved effects either appear dulled or are not playing as I remember them playing not so long ago. Has anyone else noticed this, has CCP or a current 'bug' changed them, or is it just me/my client ?

There is a thread in GD about how the world sounds have gotten quieter. You have to be zoomed in more now i guess.

Simple, stay at computer while mining and try afk sneak across someone else's border in 0.0 with friends. Do salvage, R&D, manufacturing, run missions with friends, buy low, sell high, produce Integrity Response Drones using planet stuff.

I actually rather like this idea. I see no problems with the concept of 'this information is available visually, why not make it available audibly too?'. Mining can be painfully dull and audio cues can be really useful in brining a person back to paying attention.

Even if one is 'playing' the game, I know I often play with market windows while mining so most of my screen is covered anyway.

Eve has sound Shocked (happy to oblige).

Check your settings --> There's a tickbox for "Use Quiet Turret Sounds", makes the lasers etc quiet...

So essentially what your saying is, you want a bot. Without botting. So you can mine completely AFK.

Right fantastic idea! +1 all that shite. Though I'm lying. Its a terrible idea, and for the love of god, stop playing.

    I lied :o

  • Agreed. This would be useful regardless of the situation. I know I've tried countless times to chat with a friend only to sit there waiting until the, "Sorry, I was afk," message.

  • Agreed. Modern day jet fighters have an alarm when they detect the energy signatures of active targeting. You're telling me 20,000 years in the future we can't have the same thing?

Obviously, make this conditional somehow, or your speakers will melt if you get primaried in a 1200 vs. 1200 conflict... ;)
