Fitted ship Transport

Ok, just went to go transport some of my ships around, and for some reason they game won't let me transport my own fitted ships.. WTF?!?!?!

So, obviously I wanted to say that this is bs and if I can get a fitted ship to fit in my hold, then reguardless of what ship I'm using, I should be able to.

However, this also brought me to another thought.

Instead of either transporting a ship packaged or unpackaged, their should be a "prep for transport" option.

Prepare for Transport.
Basically, their would be 3 states a ship could be in. We'll use a manticore as an example.
Packaged - 2500 m3
Unpackaged - 28,100m3
Prepared for transport - 15,300m3

The prep for transport is directly in the middle of the packaged and unpackaged size.

When prepped for transport, the weapons are retracted, wings folded in, antennas removed...etc.etc.

Basically, the way this works is that an unpackaged ship takes up more m3 than the actual m3 itself because of the awkward shap. however, when you prep it for transport, you're reshaping the ship by doing certain things like I suggested above, which allow for more m3 to fit on, beside, and under the ship.

The best way to explain it is like an airplane. You have the packaged airplane, which its completely disassembled and boxed up, then you have the fully assembled plane, which has a ton of unusable space, but then there's a transport disassembly, which takes up more than the boxed up space, but less than an assembled plane.
Wings are taken off and put in a box, props/jets are removed and boxed up, etc. etc... Thus allowing for smaller vehicles to transport them and/or for allow more goods to be transported at the same time, but ultimately making it faster to re-assemble when it reaches it's destination, but also making it so that cruitial parts of the plane don't need to be completely disassembled, which could ruin some parts(i.e. rigs on a ship).

That is a pretty good idea, but a nicer solution that has been called for a while now was proper transport ships specifically for fitted/rigged ships. The ship hangar already exists in numerous ship types. The industrial skill and the Freighter skills could be applied to new ships. Industrial ship transporter is used to haul maybe a couple cruiser and smaller hull sizes. Freighter variants can be used for say 4 battleships max? T2 variants similar to existing T2 ships.

yeah, but that doesn't really help people that want to transport their own ships, it doesn't reduce the m3 of the fitted ships, it would mean people have to buy a whole nother ship for what they already do, and it's horse crap to design another ship for this sole purpose when they could just allow players to transport fitted ships without contracts.

I use an orca, fitted ships can fit into the corp bay

only ships it cant transport are fitted battleships and of course caps,

400k maintenance bay + 40k corp hanger means i can transport

1 talos (270k)
1 Pilgrim (120k)

and one frigate fitted (28k)
or two caldari frigates as they are all around 19k

+ whatever repacked ships you can fit into a +85k cargo hold.

battleships repack to 50k


given you are really only asking about battleship movement, It wasnt supposed to be easy to move them, they are big slow and heavy.

seeing as your preped manticoure is roughly 55% of unpacked size a bs preped would be 260k ? 275k? you would still be using an orca or squeezing a thrid into that carrier. while personally i would like to move bs faster, it does give (as it always will) larger aliances an upper hand when their carriers fit 8-9 tornados instead of four and they dont have to expose their transport carriers to jumping as much, faster deployment of spare material means more blobs.

Its not possible to please all the people all the time, but it sure as hell is possible to Displease all the people, most of the time.

However, if you make it a rule that you have to be docked in a station in order to take them out of transport mode, then no, carriers will not have any benefit to transporting this way. This is specifically for transport, so you wouldn't be able to unpackage them in space.

I like this idea .

However there probably would have to be major draw backs for doing so . Carrying a fitted ship should have some effect on the amount of ships you can haul . There was an idea a while back for a fitting to be introduced to freighters . Something that reduced cargo capacity and made it impossible to launch the ships from the freighter . However there was no GM response to this idea .

I would like to see something like this implemented so that the ships i own can benefit myself as well as others .

Such a thing could effect the market. ISK has to be dumped somewhere and this is one of those things. By bringing this into EVE could probably make such a significant change that you may not realize, nor i tbh.

This makes things all too easy and effects trade. There is alternatives but, still, ISK has to leave the game as much as enter the game economy.

Make it an isk dump then. It can be a service provided by stations with repair facilities. Price would be based off the ship type. Not a huge amount, but maybe 5 mil to package and unpackage the ship combined total

but this better idea markus reese talks of does give people a way to transport their own ships. Get over your sub capital and train for another transport ship. CCP is always going to make us train for more stuff; get over it. Why? cause it makes more potential for income; you cant transport your ships right now but One of my occupations IS specialized transport and I could for you for a FEE. I'm even bonded and insured to have never lost a tech II transport ship in null or low which makes me in high demand; people know when they choose me for transport their ship or valuables will make it there. I use to transport plex before they made it where you can redeem it anywhere.
