Next step after Drake?

So I have been training up shield/missile skills in past few months and have become very comfortable doing L4s in a Drake, so the next logical step is the Raven right? I tried it with average skills and was disappointed, nearly same DPS as Drake and a tank I have to pay close attention to. trained it up almost to T2 (all except the launchers) and all support skills to 4 and still its not that much better than a drake, and not worth the trouble.

So should I just stick with Drake and go for something like a Tengu or a Nighthawk? or will the Raven/CNR line will pay in the end? my main concern here is DPS to blitz through the missions P and ofcourse decent tank.

Tengu is more DPS and a far better tank, practically speaking. You can blitz most missions in a pure buffer fit (LSE+2 invulns), for example, using the high (afterburning) speed and low sig radius as your tank until you manage to pull range or complete the mission and warp out.

Buffer tanking in missions is stupid as hell.

Drake is sort of unique.

I had to active shield tank Raven, Navy Scorp and Navy Raven. So if you expect to fit them similarly to Drake, you can forget about it.

If you want to stay with Caldari bs, I highly recommend Navy Scorp. You will have to run shield booster, but not as much as Raven or Navy Raven.

Tengu. And then cross-train into Minmatar, such as the Mach or Vargur. =/

That's the right answer for missions. As much as I love my Nighthawk, I can't in good conscience recommend you train for one when Tengus do it all (except passive tank).

Tengu is right, Vargur might be right, but to crosstrain into Minmatar for Mach? Shouldn't you be crosstraining Minmatar and Gallente?
Don't get me wrong I know the Mach is a great mission ship, but that requires some training, not to mention ISK. Then you can ask whether or not it is worth the effort, as the added value (and cost) imo isn't worth stepping of the path towards the Golem. In which you already made a good way of getting there with all missile skills.

Golem means going down caldari BS line, Tengu means going T3 cruiser.

hmm Tengu or Golem, Tengu or Golem.. P

I wanna have the most efficient skill plan possible, dont want any wasted skills.. (as possible).

Tengu is the swiss-army-knife FOTY, tough to go wrong until it gets Nerf-batted. Golem is good, but I'm pretty sure there are better options, I have seen a lot of Golem hate lately. I found that the Raven is relatively easy to perma-tank, and with the right fit can chew through missions pretty quickly.

It's cross-train into minmatar because you need to skill up Large T2 ACs. Gallente is just a quick trip up to BS IV which is too minor to be considered cross-training.

As for the Golem, it's Meh (expensive to fit, expensive to train into, and has sub-par performance.)

Care to share that perma-tank fit? nothing I do lasts more than a few minutes and I dont wanna use cap boosters.

Tengu or Nighthawk are both excellent ships, personally I prefer the Tengu.

Also, the Drake is a fantastic ship that you will find yourself coming back to for pvp, wormholes, etc. so don't be too quick to throw it away; unless you're getting sick of looking at it, just keep training skills for IT. By the time you're done you'll have more than enough support skills for just about any mid-class ship; then it's just weapons and ship skills.

This is expensive; but it's also 908 omni tank. You can swap out a shield boost amplifier for a 10mn AB II, 4:30 run time for me, no 3% cpu implant that way, and still 697 burst tank (41% cap stable with the AB off if you're only using it for bursts of mobility).
