So if a fighter warps somewhere following the target or an assigned ship and then they destroy/lose that ship will they be lost just like usual drones or will they warp back to the carrier?

You can also toggle wether they chase or not, really you only let them chase vs. recons and stealth bombers or you will lose fighters(and there like 20 mill a pop) Even if they cloak one they warp the fighters will chase and land on them one they drop out of warp.

Not really. Your assumption is that a bomber will just stop after the warp. Any good bomber pilot will start moving the moment the warp is over. You can easily move the required 2km before the fighters land, allowing you to be quite safe from decloaking.
