so when the jita scammers clearly violate the 'risk vs reward' principle eve players are so fond of, it's ok, but when carebears doing incursions do, it's not?

a glaring example of double standards in pvp oriented players' perception.

what do the jita spammers risk really? they use disposable alts they delete soon anyway, they also use macros which is a kind of risk but then would also defend mining bots because they risk their accounts?

and no i never acted on jita spammers nor did i ever do incursions so i don't really care about either of them, just pointing out the obvious hypocrisy.

okay how the hell would you introduce any risk to scamming, it's the sandbox

also the difference between scamming and other forms of income is that scamming doesn't give you a steady flow of ISK

There are trade channels specifically designed for this. They're very effective too.

ok let's change incursion runners to hi sec manufacturers, i've seen many whines about them being too rich :) and they don't introduce any isk either.

Social Darwinism should always have a place on high in the heart of EVE.

The advantage of a bad memory is that one can enjoy the same good things for the first time several times.

One will rarely err if extreme actions be ascribed to vanity, ordinary actions to habit, and mean actions to fear.

Nope, scamming is legal, the only thing that could be illegal is if someone was using a macro or something to post the scams in local over and over.

Best someone could do from CCP is run a program to detect the automated messages.

It wouldn't be that hard actually. Saw one the other day that just kept repeating the same 1bil ISK frigate sale scam when someone had fallen for it hours earlier.

Well, I think one clear difference here is that scamming in Jita really should not work at all. It's not like it's some game mechanic that feeds people ISK on a constant basis for doing nothing but basic farming. It's live content fed only by the people who fall for these really dumb scams.

These scams all boil down to people not reading the contracts they toss their ISK into. For instance, they see three Navy Comets for sale and the person says 1mil each. They look at the first two, which are sold for 1mil and think, "Damn! I better act fast to get in on this great deal from someone being dumb!" They click Accept on the very next one they see and if they have 1bil in their wallet, guess where it goes...

Or someone sees an advert for a well researched Drake BPO for only 300mil and think, "Damn, this guy doesn't know what he's got and is selling it way too low!!!" But of course they fail to actually look at the item to see it's a copy.

Or someone sees, "Rare faction PvP Frigate," on contract for a measly 5mil and think it's someone being too dumb to charge more....so they act really fast to buy it only to end up with a Reaper in their hangar.

Or the 7 PLEX for 1 bil thing....Yeah, 1 kinda looks like a 7 but certainly not enough for anyone that's not greedy enough to be trying to take advantage of peoples' poor contract creation.

The scams work because there's a lot of stupid people that play EvE and they all seem to be really greedy. CCP did not program these lemmings into the game. These aren't a bunch of Sansha NPC's buying up random, ridiculous contracts to put ISK in players' wallets.

Tell everyone to go to Amarr, its better because local has less spam and slightly less scam

Jita scams are a legitimate game mechanic and should be left the frak alone.

HOWEVER

The BOTS that spam scams or just spam in general, all need to be banned, and someone needs to ride herd on the people just spamming in local in general. Perhaps an auto-mute for 30 minutes if you spam the same thing too many times in five minutes or something.

TL:DR - Scams are fine, spam is not.

Block your own scammers - CCP has more important things to do.

Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

Negatory.

Most of the spammers are docked up. All burning Jita will do is remove their customers.
