Non Linear Inverse Perspective.

Eve needs more display options.

I need to know why a very large company like CCP cant do it but the small company that made Homeworld 2 can? CCP makes an MMO based in space but relegates ALL space structures to little bits of pixels. In a visual way I feel that this is what lets Eve down to newbies. Hopefully the new tessellation can fix this although the only limitations talked about were the poly count and boundary box extents and all that that entails.

Tessellation does not make a bra strap look any more impressive, even if you are standing close.

While gridlock works on improved HUD performance, I feel an art team whom is not spending as much time on upgrades as the trinity team was should get more people and work on these potentially vast improvements for graphics and ultimately marketing.

Because CCP, your biggest downfall is that your action videos DO NOT MATCH THE REALITY. Eve Ive heard is like life. It mimics. It follows. 90% boredom, and a little 1 % terror mixed in. Terror is terror and we don't give a toot what we are looking at but the other 90 % needs to be fairly pretty for new players or the virgins of certain ships so as to retain membership yeah?

Battles go so fast in eve its **** cool, we now need the graphics to match. Not textures or curves but scale mofo.

CCP?! can you do this?

Peace

How many times to you people have to be told. Stop comparing Eve to games like Homeworld, there are huge technical differences between the two games (such as one being a single player (or very small groups) game and the other being a massive server-client architecture with 30-45k people online at any given time). Just because Homeworld had it does not mean it would work in Eve, or even be a good idea in Eve.

Besides that, your premise is crap. Even if Eve's artwork was completely astounding, there's only a tiny fraction of people who would spend long at all looking at it, and it certainly won't retain players. Gameplay is FAR more important than artwork when it comes to player retention. The art team should be working on finishing up V3ing right now and then diving into reworking POS models, not spending time on your vague "it should be prettier".

For the players who stick around past the first hour you might be right, but my wife didn't get past that first hour because she thought it was ugly.

She might not have stayed much longer because of the gameplay, but I suspect a large portion of the folks that log in once on a trial account and never come back do so purely because of cosmetics.

I saw the trailer for Sins of a solar empire: Rebellion last night. I for one would love to see graphics and effects like that in eve. Not all of it maybe, but it had some sweet stuff. It would make everything from ship spinning to fleet battles more immersive. I especially like those shield effects. I am disappoint eve no has dis.

SoaSE is still a local RTS game, not a MMO. They're still not comparable to each other.

Comparable or not, appearance matters.

Lots of MMO's are prettier than EvE, there is nothing inherent to the genre that says "must have spartan graphics".

You haven't played many MMO's lately, have you?

Calling LoL or WoT a MMO is a bit on the edge. And, for the purposes of this discussion atleast, I don't think it's relevant; since (LoL atleast, and WoT too, I think) is small numbers of players in their own game, which is more similar to a local game than a MMO in terms of the program's structure.

But I agree, I've played a bunch of MMOs and Eve has the best graphics of the lot. The only MMO I can remember seeing with graphics equal/better than Eve is TOR.

Take this video and skip ahead to 24 minutes. It shows a little bit of what eve used to look like compared to how it looks now, then it will show the future of Eve graphics.

You'll love it, and then you can stop crying about the graphics that are already currently better than any other MMO on the market.

HW2 actual models have nowhere near the detail seen in eve. On top of that, in the larger hubs, battles etc, I don't even want to know the vertex counts that eve has to process compared to other games. Sure, things like x3 etc for space games may have prettier models, but the out of graphics data being processed combined with number of models gives eve a unique design challenge.

To quote Lfod Shi

The ratting itself is PvE. Getting away with it is PvP.

Eve looks pretty damned amazing to me. Some of its vistas often give me pause while I'm in the middle of something. Sure, some of the effects could use some work, but the art team has stated that they're getting there.

Art devs, your work is appreciated.

And OP, what are you even advocating for? I can't make sense of your post, it's far too vague.

I believe that we are comparing the Graphics Capabilities of EVE to other Space Games, not the Gameplay.
Let's keep it like that.
