Is there any reason to use a Game Time Code for game time?

Hi all,

I notice that a number of excellent sites such as BattleClinic or EVE-Central invite you to buy Game Time Codes from them or their affiliates, in order to give a little financial support to the site. Great idea!

However.. I also notice that Game Time Codes sell for $35 for two months, compared to $15 per month for a subscription (or even less for a multi-month subscription!)

So, I understand that if you want to turn real $$ into ISK, you need to buy a Game Time Code, convert it to PLEX, and sell them. But that seems to be the only reason to buy a Game Time Code? Surely if I actually want game time, I should just activate a subscription through the account management page, and thus pay less?

Apart from the officially sanctioned RMT aspects, some uses of GTC could include controlled spending ie: you give the child/irresponsible spender gift cards to specific services or stores. I haven't seen GTC in local stores here in Australia, but this option works nicely for kids who are paid pocket money: save up their coins, buy a time card from the bricks and mortar store.

Cheers.. I also got the answer in-game that the Time Cards made a lot of sense for UK players due to the subscription rate in the UK currently being set to 15 pounds, which is far more than $US15?

But for an ordinary adult gamer, with a credit card, in a $US subscription territory (I'm in Australia too), no reason to use a Time Card for game time that anyone can think of?

There are other countries beside US and UK. Some of them can pay with Euro, but it's less expensive to use GTC bought using local currency or dollars. For example, exchange rates in Poland: 1€ = ~4PLN, $1 = ~3PLN. Buying GTC for $35 is much less expensive than buying 2 PLEX for 40€.

Generally not.

If you are an adult with a job and credit card, there's also very rarely reason to use PLEX (bought with isk ingame, that is), because very likely you make the US$ faster in your RL job than the ISK ingame. Obviously there's exceptions (if you are without a job with more time than money in your hands, or if your playstyle is such that you make ridiculous sums from e.g. trading and need an isk sink, etc).

Ah, I see, I heard someone complaining about the subscription price in UK pounds, but the whole Euro zone gets charged € 14.95 a month to subscribe (= roughly $US19.50), right? So GTCs bought in $US are better for everyone in the Euro zone.

Agreed - the two reasons why I personally would want to buy PLEX for ISK rather than subscribing would be (1) if I really was making more money than I knew what to do with (i.e. making billions a month trading) or (2) just for the "ha ha! beat the game!" factor. Big smile
