I love how so many of them, seem "entitled" to easy ISK in order to pay for their accounts as if they have a right to play for Free.

On the down side I've noticed a lot less of the guys I had tagged as potential gank victims for being bots online. Humm go figure, that guys whom don't answer your PMs or respond to your ship bumps & harassment are not really just AFK for five mins getting their fix of twinkies and mountain dew..

You really think CCP can afford a 20% hit in subscriptions?

CCP is NOT taking a 20% subscriber hit. The botters live off Plex....people are buying and hoarding more Plex than are used already, so CCP is making their money regardless.

I think both of you are missing the fact that this "20%" figure is something made up on the spot by a botter trying to defend his own actions, with no evidence to support it.

20% is a lot. It's 1-in-5. Do you really think 1-in-5 people who play this game bot? If there are more than 4 people in your corp, I'd be concerned if I were you...

I showed some of the new people in our corp this and the posts from Sreegs about RMT and botters and warned them not to do either as not only would we pod them back into the last game they were in but we'd report them as well. I don't think any of them were thinking of it but I prefer to make it clear that we won't have that going on in corp.

Your not looking at it correctly....

Perhaps the actual number of people might be 5%. But most botters I've seen or heard of don't limit themselves to one bot. They have 5 or 10, or 50. So you can take that 5%, which is probably low and multiple it by 10 accounts on average.....

Someone else once tried to explain that PLEX ingame is a liability to CCP. If they sell 20,000 PLEX in April and those plex all get used in May, they will see a monthly revenue decline for May because the April Plex got used much like a gift certificate. I'd laugh at 20% but CCP will lose active subs due to thier bot ban program. Active subs is a loss, no matter how they get paid. I won't be surprised if they lose 5% on all bot/ RMT and more is possible because Bots are Alts.

It will run much deeper in game if/ when they start hitting the renters alliances. Those alliances are charged rates that impose bot revenue from the systems. So not only will the renters be gone, the alliances that got the renters ISK will have thier faucets dry up. Fun times ahead in Null Sec.

I think you're missing the point. You can't just make up statistics out of thin air.

Is CCP losing some money in the process of banning accounts? Probably, yeah. I'm sure it's nowhere near 20% though. I think the main point in botting to begin with is to purchase PLEXes, which eliminates some of CCP's income anyway. In total, I bet it's costing them more in man-hours to employ Team Security than they're losing in lost subscription fees.

I've read more WoW references in this thread than any I've ever read in my life. Must be working....

Highlighted the appropriate point.

PLEX is a Zero Sum game as far as CCP is concerned. For every PLEX a botter buys to continue botting, a player forked over cash for. Whether or not they did a 2/4/6 PLEX doesn't matter, those are the buying options given to all subscribers. The only difference to CCP is the name of the person footing the bill for playing the game that month. CCP is losing no revenue due to the PLEX system, and IMHO is why PLEX is genius.

However, PLEXing is supposed to be a reward for players with the skills, time, or ingenuity to make enough fake money to pay another player ISK for their real world cash. I would love to have all the 'free' stuff too, but somehow working on enough ISK to buy that new T2 BS makes it all the more special, both to me and to the bastard who is going to blow it up.

You are of course correct, and I sheepishly apologize for my erroneous statement. Hadn't quite thought that all the way through I guess. Oops

Thank you for the clarification.
