Rigged ship transport through empire space

In looking for rigged ship transport I found a 2009 thread about it plus one more recently that seemed more like a tirade. Can anyone from CCP comment on if and when we might be able to carry rigged ships in a freighter? My Charon could carry 2 rigged battleships but I get a message that it 'won't fit' :/

Seems silly.

1. Create courier contract to your alt
1a. If your alt is not the one with a freighter, contract/trade the courier package back to your main
2. Transport courier package in freighter
3. Either deliver or break the courier package at destination

Seems very broken if I need to do anything with contracts at all, wouldn't you say?

If it can be done via contract, then why can you not just do it yourself.

Because technically putting rigged, unpackaged ships into cargo as opposed to ship maintenance array is breaking a game mechanic, and its only the contract shrink wrapping that allows it to work.

Its not a particularly elegant way of doing anything, BUT its also supposed to be a downside that its not easy to moved rigged ships around as cargo. If you could just click 'turn into cargo' there wouldn't be any point in differentiating between cargo space and SMA space. You can work around it with a little time and effort, but you definitely aren't supposed to be able to do it on the fly.

I proposed something similar to that here

I am the One who exists in Shadow. I am the Devil your parents warned you about.

The reason you can't transport unpacked ships in a cargo hold is to limit rapid reshipping in space to fleets with a carrier (or orca/etc). If every ships could carry unpacked ships in its cargo hold, pvp fleets would have a fleet of industrial alts following them dropping fitted replacement ships. As freighters are unable to jettison cargo, I can see no reason to not allow them to carry unpackaged/fitted ships ships.

Yea, I didn't think about the jettisoning part but if only allowed to load/unload at stations I don't see a big problem with it.
