2) Why do cicadas live underground sucking tree sap for 17 years?* Then come out live as adults for only about a month. It's hard to see any point to all that.
Also is there some numerological significance to the fact that they stay underground either 2, 13, or 17 years? Those numbers seem kind of sinister.

*The nymph burrows into the soil and crawls to a tree root (using its claw-like front legs). The nymph will suck the tree's sap through straw-like mouthparts (called the rostrum). The nymph stage lasts either 2, 13 or 17 years. There is no pupal stage -- cicadas undergo incomplete metamorphosis.

Jimmy cracks corn, because he signed a pact with Dave Grohl once (while Dave Grohl was dressed as a Devil, filming the video for Tenacious D's song "Tribute").
