PvE you will probly be better off with 'evys.

I wanted to paint my space ship red, but I couldn't find enough goats.

If you are mission-running, then it depends on the level.

For level 2 missions I would use Assault Launchers.

Typically, here are the missile launchers I use for each level of mission:

Level 1: Rocket Launchers
Level 2: Assault Launchers
Level 3: Heavy Launchers
Level 4: Heavy Assault Launchers or Torpedo Launchers

Assault launchers for killing frigs, heavy for everything else. This applies to both pve and pvp.

Considering your age, I'd focus on heavy missiles. Heavy assault missiles are quite skill intensive when you want to use them for PvE

From personal experience AML's for the Caracal Heavy's mess up the defensive capability's for missions at low SP's. By the time you can use heavy effectively you will be in Drake or Tengu already.

This is a good Pve set up even did level 3 &4's as a support ship with it.

I would stick to assault launchers for level 2's if that is what you're doing. Level 2's mainly consist of frigates, and heavy launchers are very suboptimal for that. Also bring a couple light drones as you got 10 m3 drone bay on the Caracal

I'm not certain what setup you're running, but as long as you can fit it I'd go for something like this

Everything fits with only Weapon Upgrades at 2 for this setup, while not making it too expensive

Upgrade to T2 where you can. Might require some tweaks to upgrade with very low skills. For rigs what suits your needs. Pulse the afterburner as needed to stay in range for missiles but out of range of major damage and webs (10km)

With better skills you can upgrade everything to T2 and run the afterburner permanently without the cap recharger.

This. On a typical level 2 mission there are a lot of frigate-sized rats and very, very few cruiser-sized rats. On a level 3 there are enough large rats that you want to use heavies.

As cliche as the "Get a drake" is, people say that for a reason. For level two's you can fit a rack of assault missile launchers, a stupidly strong tank and still have a full flight of light drones. Once you get up to level 3's, swap to Heavy Missiles and you're all set. Drakes can even do level 4's, but are pretty slow. You should then look at upgrading to a Tengu or some version of the Raven (T1, then CNR or Golem) using cruise missiles (Golem can use torps with the right fit for OMGWTFBBQ paper dps)

Caracal with assault launchers (not HAMs) is awesome for level 2's. Heavies don't fair too well against frigates, which is mostly what you'll be up against, with a few cruisers thrown in.

You can fit assault launchers on your Caracal while you are still doing L2s. But start training HAMs ASAP anyway. You don't need good AML skills to make L2 missions go boom, and they'd go to waste if you go the Drake route later.
