Passive Shield Tanking Modules, Why is the T2 worse than the T1 M4?

They are equal in everyway, But the T2 version requires more CPU.
A good bit more actually, I've goofed with a few Alliance members, And none of them ever actually knew that this was the case. They still flew the T2 mods, Even though it's horrible.

T1M4 - 16 CPU
T2M5 - 22 CPU

This occurs in many examples. For example scrams and webs, the m4 counterparts are generally better, and potentially cheaper, depending on where you are.

As for alliance members not realising, it becomes far more obvious on small ships with lower level skills. They do say in many fitting guides (I'm sure I saw it but I'm failing to see it again) and the tutorials that you should check stats because sometimes m4s are better.

Some t2s do have other perks though, for example in turrets, t2s haven't got particularly better RoF or damage but they can fit t2 ammo which does give massive improvements to damage/range etc. At least, PvP massive.

As for why, I'm not sure, some t2s are better than m4s but yeah it's a bit weird.

I wouldn't say broken, but it's always been this way so that could be skewing my opinion...

There are many modules for which the meta4 is better than T2. SPRs are one of them.

The benefit is often cost though. M4 can be much more expensive then T2

Oh look, it's this thread again.

There are few cases where that CPU difference will matter (A few drake fits, and Gilas) Would you like the better module to be named T2? Even though, traditionally, T2 has the highest fitting requirements?

Perhaps you should play the game more, instead of whining about working as intended modules.

Fit a passive tank Istar last night for some L4s... I paid for those m4 mods, but was well worth it as the Istar is a tight fit.

Plenty of room for high slot autocannons by paying 3x the T2 price.

Best passive tank yet by far for me.

If you want to get into weirdness, why would anyone fly (let alone pay for) the Meta 4 energized nano membrane, rather than the meta 4 nano plating?

Aside from that, Meta 4 often beats the T2 stuff, with easier fitting requirements. But with a price difference often in millions.

Woo! CSM XI!

I agree with most posts, it generally comes down to price and fitting. If you don't need the extra fitting, then use T2, because the extra isk you'd spend on meta4 would be wasted. The stats are generally the same, but you pay a bit more for less fitting hassle. Seems about right to me, really.

Edit:Also, since meta4 is drops only, there needs to be SOME way they're competitive or nobody would ever use them since T2 is (usually) the cheaper option anyway.

I think it's rather other way around: some M4 are more expensive than T2 exactly because they are equal or better, while having lower skill/fitting requirements.

Edit: okay, rarity plays role too.
