Overall probably Mach and Nightmare, depending on what region you're in. Tengu and Golem and other Marauders and faction BSes are up there too.

so is a mach/nightmare going to be better than say, tengu/nighthawk?

Yes. Considerably so if you're going for bounties and not just LP. If you're going for LP and LP only, the Tengu holds its own.

i guess the question is what completes the mission fastest.. ive been out of game a year, and probably not run a mission in 3 years- but back then i used to use a cnr which got the job done pretty quick

LOL, I guess the answer is like the ppl been trying to tell you ... machariel / nightmare.

CNR, and ships of that ilk, are very good mission runners. They're well able to destroy the NPCs and they generally have very good shield tanks ... with probably the rattlesnake being the epitome of that genre.

But their DPS delivery is delayed (missiles / drones) and some of the outgoing DPS is wasted ... missiles flying off into oblivion after the target dies. Turret ships deliver their DPS pretty much immediately (if they can hit).

So, if you want fastest completion go for high-DPS turret ships ... with drones as backup for little guys that get thru your ranged defences. Taking a fast completion approach to missions, tho, is not a semi-AFK undertaking. If you want to run missions in a more relaxed, semi-AFK, mode then the likes of the tengu / rattlesnake etc are better choices.

I guess I am almost a 'vet' by now. Hopefully not too bitter and managing to help more than I hinder. I build and sell many things, including large collections of bookmarks.

You're supposed to swap targets after last volley is in the air, before the rat dies. It's not hard.

CNR doesn't come close to Mach/NM/Tengu with high skills. It's easy to get into, and does better with low skills though.

Rattlesnake is afk. Tengu is very much the opposite of afk. Watch for webs.

you have to decide if you are going to blitz sites or if you are going to hammer them. By blitz, I mean run them by only shooting the triggers, then cashing in on LP in the end. If you are doing that, then you want a tengu (cause you're going to be warping around ALOT).

If you are going to hammer them, kill everything in mission and then once everything is a wreck leave to turn it in, then you want a mach/nightmare, or a vargur/paladin if you want to loot. Generally the vargur/paladin can make slightly more isk than the mach/vargur if you have the attention to really blitz the site AND loot/salvage the battleship wrecks at the same time. If you can't manage that (and no, it isn't easy) then you are going to be better off in the mach/nightmare that can kill (slightly) faster than the vargur/paladin.

looks like mach is the one for me..

on to my next question.. Mach setups! go! Try keep it under 2b ideally, so no full officer fits or anything daft.

The Minnie space T2 800 auto's fit is pretty standard; shell out for 4 faction gyros, fill the rest of the lows with Tech 2 TE's.
For the mids I fit an expl hardener, a T2 tracking comp w/both scripts in cargo, a T2 XL booster and an invul.

You shield tank - if you can call it that - doesn't need to be cap stable; you're a dps tank, so you should only have to pulse the booster.

Use a little transveral on the BS hile you kill frigs & cruisers, then move in to pop the big ships. The speed at which this boat completes Pirate Invasion is quite phenomenal :)

Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

i'd rather have afterburner than a tracking comp. ACs have plenty tracking.

Blitzing? Tengu.
Shooting stuff? Machariel.
ISK/H with reasonable LP conversion? (Means 1k isk/lp, since anything over is trading income) -> Golem/Vargur. Golem is an asshat to fly, vargur is idiot-proof.

Cost:
300m gyros
800m hull
400m booster
600m implants
2.1b. Implants are hard to lose, though.

Cap lasts 4min (without AB, 3min with) and tanks 600 omni, 740 angel, 500 amarr.
Will do anything, barring non-blitz smash the supplier.
If you're not as manly, you can swap out the AB ( for a cap booster (Will be stable with a meta 2 cap booster using 400's, which means a charge used every 13 seconds, and being able to load 8 charges in the booster)
Or a cap recharger, if you're even less mainly.
Does 1.3k dps with Bouncer II's, 1100 without. 75km falloff.
Calculations done with the folliwing implants:

Note: With a TC (or two) you can actually use Hail. Do that at your peril.
