Issues with finding asteroids

Hi all,

I'm struggling with asteriods. I warp to a belt and then can't see any rocks. They don't show up on screen or on my overview. If someone is mining I can fly to them to find some but if I'm the only one in a belt I'm screwed. I've reset my settings and emptied my cache. I've checked my overview and set it to mining and looked at the settings and all asteroids are checked?! What I am I doing wrong? Or is it a glitch? Please help as I'm very frustrated right now Sad

Are you sure you arent just flying to empty belts? The roids only have a finite amount of minerals before they dissapear. A group of organised miners can strip a system in no time.

Create a new overview tab. load the 'mining' preset for it.

That should help.

Hello,

This is an interesting problem. I've experienced the same thing with jetcans. Imagine what a horror it was when, in one client, I could see the jetcan that I've filled with 27km3 ore, but on my hauler client, I couldn't see the can. I tried clearing my cache, restarting, everything. It was a "permaglitch". I think the problem resolved itself after a reinstall. It was a horrible prospect since I was on DSL at the time and it took me 2 days for the DL. If you're on cable it's not so bad.

Before you go that route, however, I was wondering if you wouldn't mind posting a couple of screenshots to show us exactly what's happening?

I've already tried a new tab no joy. I tried every belt in a system have all gone is that possible? I will look at different systems. When I get chance if the issue is still there after trying different systems I will post screens.

It is quite possible for a whole system to be empty. As far as I remember they used to respawn after downtime unless it has changed.

I would suspect you couldn't see the can's because of your overview setting...

You can setup your client to NOT show corp/fleet/alliance/etc members, and their owned objects. This occasionally manifests into situations where you can't see wrecks and cans they make.

Be aware that asteroid belts can be quite a long distance (>100 km) from the warp-in point.

I recommend any frigate with an AB or MWD to scout the belts and bookmark the ones that are in good shape that day.

If you right click in space - and then select Asteroids - and then a belt and warp to zero - that should at least put you in visual range of the rocks.

if you can't see any - sometimes it's because of the back ground in that belt - that is - the rocks don't stand out.

On the left side of your central controls is a round button with a pole in it. That is your tactical display. Turn that on. Then move your perspective above and below the plane it creates. If there are any rocks present - they should have lines coming out of them at the bottom leading to the plane of the tactical display. Even if you know they are there - this can make them a lot easier to see in a system with a dark back ground.

If you have a source of light in the back ground, you can pull your POV back and then twist it around to try to bring different areas in front of the light source.

I've found both those things helpful.

Additionally - you have a setting now for Load All. It makes for a cluttered over view but if you don't see something you think should be there - do that - then sort by distance. Anything in your immediate area should show up.
