Destroying PoS's

Currently, my corp, and a few other corps that would normally be in an alliance, but cannot afford it atm are looking for some lowsec property to take a hold of, preferably with a decent moon to mine from. Problem is, most of the good moons have PoS's on them We have even fortuned upon a moon with platinum with an offline PoS floating next to it. Problem is, we are not quite sure what to do with a Pos that isn't ours. When I was looking at its statistics, it showed a 99% damage resistance on hull. Now, I'm not a math wiz, but with the amount of structure hp, that seems like a long time. Am I missing something or does it really take that long?

They don't really have 99% resists on hull. I can't remember the actual reason why those stats are on there though.

Your best bet is to get some 5 or so ravens and a lot of other friends and hammer that thing till it's down like a virgin on prom night.

That 99% stat is the hull resistance on the POS mods while the POS is reinforced, which is a non issue if the POS is offline.
Just shoot it till it dies.

This is wrong and you should be ashamed. Don't speak when you don't know.

"Outside" modules that are anchored near a tower get the 99% hull resistance.
Doesn't matter if the tower is online/offline, reinforced, inside the forcefield or outside, blabla.

Outside modules : guns, launchers, ewar. Maybe jumpbridges and cyno modules.

The other modules have no protection and will die withing a few seconds.

So it's impossible to kill the outside modules, basically? Can you prevent them from firing in any way?

Pos is offline. The mods will not do anything. It IS possilbe to kill that stuff, it's just time consuming. If you have dreads (and the system is quiet) use them. Just watch out for people in local, because every dumbass with anything bigger than a pod will get in a fleet and rush out if they think they can get a dread kill.

EDIT: also once an external module's armor hits 0 it becomes incapacitated and cannot do anything until it's armor gets fully repaired.

POS is offline, just go with 20-30 battleship fleet and kill it with fire, blast it with ****.

You will not have to worry about the POS. Just about the local getting down on you.

If the POS is offline you may as well drop dreads on it and kill it fast, you could probably do it in 1 cycle, meaning you dreads are only exposed for 5 minutes, unless someone knows you are coming it is unlikely anyone can react and prepare a gang to kill you in that time.

BS / T3s are also a fair alternative, geddon and oracle are probably the best, get a cap stable fit with sentries and watch the POS slowly die
