The elections are over and there's no more need for creeps who like to single out female candidates, can you power down for a year or something?

This is technically true, but in their defense, this WAS the first Fanfest that had this kind of media attention. Naturally, they should have worried far more about the content they were presenting to the world, and in the future I'm sure they will.

Even then though, it took a godawful comment from a player with an uncountable amount of enemies in-game who would gladly use this to their advantage for any variety of reasons (from pragmatic reasons to simply '**** Mittens' reasons) to make this really blow up the way it did. If literally ANYONE else on the panel would have said something similar, the issue likely remains within the forums, assuming there would be an issue at all. That's just bad luck on CCP's part.

The biggest problem was how they handled the punishment, though. Waiting like they did and then throwing it down not even 2 hours after allowing Mittens and the CSM to come up with their own solution is the worst of both worlds, as it gave off the impression that the decision was due to external pressures (media, Sony, angry playerbase) rather than an actual violation of the rules (which should have merited a punishment pretty much immediately). That's a pretty dangerous message to send to a playerbase that exists on the edge of sanity and reason as it is.

Especially given that Mittans works at a gaming press site and can easily garner negative attention to the game (which he's done before) to get such punishments passed

kinda what Im thinking actually

More like CCP is becoming a liability to itself. The CSM has done some great things as of late and has helped push back on behalf of the players.

The overall problem is CCP has delusions of grandeur that have not gone away and have only shifted form and intensified. CCP is hell-bent on trying to make EVE as big as possible and is willing to make deals with the devil (Sony) to attempt to facilitate this.

The problem with getting bigger is the CCP we all know will die with it, once a corporate entity passes a point of critical mass it tends to lose itself and ultimately will take the safest approach to it's business model.

Mark my words if CCP ever see's over a million users fan fest will be totally neutered along with griefing and other forms of the meta game. Once you get really big it's all about maintaining a otherwise stable and boring image to preserve the largest amount of customers and keep your legal department with their feet on their desk.

This is probably true :-(

The only liability was the individual behind The Mittani account.

It just happened that he was also on the CSM.

Yep, ccp is getting crazy. Almost everything they announce sickens me. They will never get a million players by neutering eve because, there are better games out there if the danger/griefing isn't a factor. I play eve because of it. Take it out, then I may as well just play star wars. And if I'm not playing eve, then I sure as heck ain't playing dust.

And I think that would be a 'GoodThing'TM. It's part of growing up to be a big company. Not all press is good press. Look what happened to 'That Investment Bank'.

Basically this. It would be good for CCP's money and good for their new one million users.

Theyre either too powerful or powerless depending on who you talk to, but Mittens has proven at least one thing through the year, the position of CSM is a liability for the company and should be let go.

True words of wisdom here. I have confidence in CCP. At the end of the day CCP has to live with the their errors. If they ( CCP )become a WOW clone under the flag of SONY safe games to become like family games ( farmville, The sims on line ect ect .) Well that is that. No more real cash for CCP.

The CSM in my humble opinion is like another customer at a fast food joint screaming " the food sucks, the food sucks." i do not need another CUSTOMER telling me the food sucks. Tthat is my call to make. If the food becomes to nasty I leave and do not comeback. ( Like the 8o dollar electronic pants via the SPACE BARBIE doll idea! More blunders like that, well good bye CCP. ) Also let us be real here. Who really thinks anyone on the CSM is not fighting for a bigger slice of the pie for their ( CSM members) alliance or game style. Goonswarm is by far the strongest sharpest and most dangerous EVE players today. THEY DON'T NEED CCP and the CSM's help to continue their dominance. Pull the plug on the CSM and let CCP spend energy on running the game we all love. If they want player suggestions pick some pilots at random and ask. No muss, no fuss, no costly trips to iceland.

Eve Online and by extension CCP, benefit greatly from the controversies that arise from time to time.

Small retraction of population on incident, money spent filling a procedural gap followed by a small boom .. just look at all the incidents from the T20 fiasco (earliest I can recall/followed) forward.

For most companies/games, repeated "bad publicity" will eventually be fatal but for Eve, which survives on the griminess and backstabbing of its population, the very same publicity ends up being a showcase for how much fun/drama/tears can be had when live-action roleplayers are equipped with proper clubs rather than those silly padded foamy ones Smile

Just don't try it in highsec, I hear it's annoying to try wardec, and uh well CCP seems to be in an abusive relationship with suicide ganking mechanics.
