ISK Idea

So this isn't a finalized argument, rather, an idea I've been bantering around in my own head trying to figure out if it's a good idea or a bad one.

The idea is adding to the game some type of EVE universe wide ISK generating system, maybe around 100mil ISK a month, (about 3.5mil a day) that is given to all players (100mil is just a shot in the dark, could be less IMO). Players would need to perform some type of task, maybe maintain something similar to what the PI and moon miners do, but it would provide some small amount of passive ISK generation. Why would this help the game? It would open up so many people to 0.0 and PvP! It cost's both in terms of ISK and in terms of game time to be able to survive and fight on a regular basis in 0.0, or any PvP area for that matter. I would imagine there are many pilots who would love to PvP, but making ISK can be very time consuming, and unless EVE is your full time job, the prospect of losing even just a moderately fitted BC, once a week, is just to much of an ISK sink.

Yes, this probably would inflate the markets (but not enough to completely wipe out the passive ISK IMO). Yes, it would be 'unfair' to those who have developed solid and quick ISK making techniques, and yes, EVE is a game that is stead-fast in not giving breaks; I understand all that. But it's no wonder you have people leaving EVE because people need to spend most their time making ISK just to play the game, and when you only have a few hours a night, doing both is impossible.

Also- as a sidenote, I think there should be some type of practice PVP area, have it called a 'battle simulator' or something. Found when docked in station, you can jump into it and participate in global PVP without the risk of losing ISK.

Just a friendly idea, no need to roast it, but a constructive discussion would be very welcomed!

they need more isk sinks not more isk faucets. every day billions of isk randomly appear in the universe of eve, and only a few bil disappear

What we need are more isk sinks for VERY ACTIVE players, and more isk faucets for less-active players.

I'm the latter, I'm tied up with college and a graphic novel project, along with a storywriting project. There isn't enough time or motivation for me to run all over EVE to make the isk I need to buy myself a Tengu or other such expensive hardware.

Far too much effort for a forum troll.

Honestly tho.. Even running low-level missions, I can pull in 2-3 mil in a few hours. (if I salvage, I can pull 2-3M in a single L3 mission). My trader alt can easily grab 10-20M in a single day trading.

If you have THAT hard of a time making ISK, send me your ISK, and I will double it for you.

IMO EVE is missing a stock market feature that I can invest into.

No its not.

About ISK sinks they could ofc add the option to remap attributes for a certain amount of ISK, although pvp should be enough of a ISK sink.

Making ISK *is* playing the game. Which game are you playing?

Generating ISK out of thin air with out the cost of time and effort is bad. That time and effort spent making ISK, makes the whole game go round, it makes the economy work, it makes the risk of PVP have meaning and value. The only thing that has any real worth in Eve is the time and effort the players are willing to put into the game. ISK is a direct reflection of time and effort, it is time and effort commoditized into in-game money.

Poofing magical ISK into the game, with out the need for time, effort and risk, cheapens all the time effort and risk that has ever been done or ever will be done in Eve.

Eve does not need more ISK faucets, it does not necessarily need more ISK sinks. If it needs anything, it needs more material consumption except moon goo since those materials have a relatively fixed supply schedule.


If Eve had a fixed money supply, then perhaps something closer to what you're speaking about could work, though that's a different subject and I won't spam everyone with it.

People have been making great points about this, and I want to address a few of them, in no particular order;


I agree that this hypothetical isk faucet should not be a welfare system (something for nothing), what I was trying to express in the opening post was a system that gave a reasonable amount of ISK, without hours of game play. It's true that making ISK 'is' the game, but I think that's an opinion based on how individuals choose to plays. For me, making ISK is not playing the game, playing the game is roaming with my buddies in 0.0, protecting installations, etc. However, many people like me are unable to do that, because the 2-3 hours a day of play the normal working adult has at night, by default, needs to be spent doing other things, chiefly making ISK. This fundamentally removes the point of playing.

Now, this faucet we are discussing would not be able to provide titans, or provide a near endless source of income. If you want that much money you would need to do other things, obviously. But, it would provide enough money, with maybe 30mins a day of upkeep, to support losing a BC or something around that price a week. This system is to give casual players the chance to lose ships without the currently crushing loss experienced. I'm all for the huge risk associated with PvP, but with some type of system outlined above, the loss would still be a large loss, but only for the rest of the week until whatever the faucet actually is provides the next ISK injection.

As for the inflation argument; I agree. If you inject X amount of ISK into a free market, prices will go up by Y. However, I think X>Y (meaning inflation would not match the income generated), and the faucet would work as planned. However, I am not an economist, so this is only opinion.

I'm not an economist nor do I have an intimate knowledge of theories behind economy. However, I can tell you that common sense says more ISK entering the game simply means higher prices. Prices are, very loosely, a function of available ISK and available resources or products. Increasing the available ISK without increasing the available resources or products will result in inflation.

If, instead, you suggested some new passive form of generating resources you might have increased support. However, you already have some forms of mostly passive resource generation: planetary interaction, moon mining and data cores. There is no completely passive form of resource generation, which is really as it should be. A large part of the game is about generating resources and using those resources to your advantage in a fight. If it was purely about the fight, EVE would lose a lot of the complexity it has.

Every month, a certain amount of isk should be taken out of the richest sov-holding entities in game and given to every player. This will encourage pvp.
