You might have liked seeing MIttani get labeled a "bully"....

But, as people fail to understand, when laws or the interpretations thereof are made out to "screw" people you don't like, you create an environment full of the same kinds of legal minefields that could just as easily blow your own leg off.

Quote:
“H.B. 2549 would make it a crime to use any electronic or digital device to communicate using obscene, lewd or profane language or to suggest a lewd or lascivious act if done with intent to ‘annoy,’ ‘offend,’ ‘harass’ or ‘terrify,’” the letter notes. … ‘Lewd’ and ‘profane’ are not defined in the statute or by reference. ‘Lewd’ is generally understood to mean lusty or sexual in nature and ‘profane’ is generally defined as disrespectful or irreverent about religion or religious practices.”

“H.B. 2549 is not limited to a one to one conversation between two specific people. The communication does not need to be repetitive or even unwanted. There is no requirement that the recipient or subject of the speech actually feel offended, annoyed or scared. Nor does the legislation make clear that the communication must be intended to offend or annoy the reader, the subject or even any specific person.” the letter continues.

So, how long until MMOs are banned in Arizona and how long before the nanny-statists in the other states smell blood in the water and pick up on this?

Because everyone who labels a drunken moron a "bully" is actually arguing that he should face criminal charges over his behavior...

About five minutes before the courts throw it out as a massive violation of free speech.

(That is, if anyone actually tried to apply the law that broadly, instead of to cases that are legitimately criminal harassment or intimidation.)

Therein is the problem. Look up the original intent of the Commerce Clause to see what I mean.

The bill actually passed? Methinks the Arizona legislature knows that it's a dumb bill, but the members don't want vote against it in order to avoid being accused of supporting cyber-bullying or otherwise not protecting the children.

If the governor actually signs the bill, it won't make it past the first judge to hear the case. Heck, I can't even see the Arizona prosecutors as even bothering to try enforcing the bill.

Since when can one make it illegal to annoy or offend anyone?

Harassment and threats are already illegal.

Arizona has been really full O the dumb for the past few years. I'm sorry to say i lived there for 19 years.

I think they tried to pass a bill that said if you want an abortion you first have to see a live one performed... What the ****?
Even passed a law allowing firearms in a bars... Even gun nuts went "Uh sounds like a pretty dumb idea."

So much for the ideals of republicans to keep government out of "your business." What they mean is keep them out of my business, but in yours if I don't like it.

When did we get this notion of "It's against the law to be or get offended." and seems we've grown less thick skin, and thicker skin all at the same time. We've grown accustom to a lot of weird ****; yet less so when directed at someone or us.
We need to go back to the days where it was ok to punch someone in the face if they were rude to you... Where you had it coming.

Like, we needed another extorting Mittani thread.

Keep giving this shadow of a human being that special material he doesn't deserve.

Well as Occupy showed us you dont have the freedom to assemble anymore
You gotta be careful what you say on fbook or twitter or you might get a call by the secret police (and not even for actual threats - I could see EVE ppl having that happen for talking about suicide bombing)

like I said in another thread; Im assuming EVE will be illegal in that state

I for one welcome our MMO banning overlords.

Because for most people, something they care about actually, and finally, being affected is the only thing that will wake them out of their zombie state.

Yeah, I am wondering, too. Mittani's brainrage, which is not more than the opposite to an emorage, should better be dropped asap. It is not worth the press it gets.

Loss is meaningful. Therefore is the loss of meaning likewise meaningful. It is the source of all trolling.
