Dont let it happen to you friends (POS stolen)

i just had a pos stolen thought id tip other young players to watch for this one:

A) I get war dec'ed by a corp ive never had any contact with
B) figure my science pos in empire is the target
C) scramble to empty structures of contents unanchor them and store them at station
-so far so good-
D) empty pos fuel and set to unanchor tower
-heres where it goes awry-
E) 30 seconds before tower unanchors member of the wardeccing corp enters system
F) 20 seconds before it unanchors uninvolved local lurker uncloaks 15k from me and the tower and gets a good running bump on me just as war dec guy pulls up in a hauler
G) tower unanchors, hauler grabs it before i can get to it and _POOF_ easy money

So, im not mad or nothing i figured the tower was lost the minute i anchored it, BUT after some reflection on it, when i had the choice to build up a formidable defensive tower or a dickstar at least, or take it down and try to escape with it, i wussed out and tried to run with it, which played right into the hands of the enemy. So there you have it, take what you will from my experience, but my advice to you other small/solo indy corps guys is build it up, hold your ground, if you lose it you lose it, but at least you didnt basically give it away. go down fighting.

Much love to you all fly safe :)

Someone in your corp gave someone rights they shouldn't have. Suck it up.

That's not much money, but I would shake those guys' hands for pulling off this heist. That is just awesome.

Ed: but yeah, attn newbies: unanchored stuff leads to "yoink!"

Somehow, I don't think you actually read the OP at all. Which makes you an idiot for posting when you had no clue what was going on.

To the OP, yeah, that is an interesting tactic. It's a bit of a gamble on their part, that you would take it down rather than sticking it out, but I guess it was less of a gamble than it could have been since you're a tiny corp. A bit of a warning to any other small corps who get wardecced by them though. What corp was it that did this to you?

I agree it was great tactic i even conragtulated them pulling it off (since it needed pretty good timing a co-operation)
the ticker was (ybb) {ink} i believe. pulled by general german and local lurker was named kruemel from some a different corp. it was pretty impressive to see go off perfect. :)

Nice grab, yea.

I agree with the OP's idea that if you think a POS is going to be a target, instead of dismantling completely, take everything you actually care out of it and make it into as much of a nuisance to reinforce as you can. If you were doing the POS right, you were making money with it, so you can easily afford that, too.

(Ignore or report the flametrolls. Answering them just feeds them.)

With precautions (adding the aggressors to watch list, doing this at an unusual time, etc) it may have worked. Still, better to go down in a blaze of glory Twisted

honestly this was my first wardec i wish i had consulted with some of my friends that had been playing longer aswell which i will suggest as something you could do if you find yourself in the same spot... some of them are extremely knowledgeable and couldve probably talked me out of trying to run for it.. so yea if youve got older friends in game consult them before making hurried decisions and you'll avoid being in my spot.

not the first time this has happened... Check C&P and you'll find atleast 20-30 of these threads. Most folks don't even think to watch out for those wonderful little war deccers.
In the grand scheme of things... You're all pubbies. So HTFU. "It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses." - Elwood Blues

Honestly, you did better way better than most people in the same situation. You did not completely do it right, but immediately when you realized you had done it wrong, you figured out what the right thing is, and posted about it so others can check your reasoning and learn from your mistake. Moreover, you did a lot of things right too: you noticed the wardec, you realized the tower was a target, you saved most of your assets, you did not post a whiney post on forums about how you are being griefed. If you keep at this you'll be a damn good player one day fairly soon.

Everyone in EVE has done a lot of totally idiotic rookie mistakes (if they tell you otherwise, they are lying or deluding themselves). All of us have hilarious stories about total facepalm moments when we realized that something we were busily doing actually served the total opposite of our goals. What differentiates a good player from a crap one is that when a good player makes a mistake, he or she figures out what went wrong, and then finds out a way to do it better next time. A crap player goes around blaming someone else, game mechanics, or general unfairness of everything, and learning exactly nothing.

All of this. Eve needs more players like the OP.

i appreciate you guys and your input these last couple posts and several beers have made me feel much better about my "total facepalm moment" (great term for it) Im still new here and i hope other young newbies will learn and think twice if it seems shady it probably is..and luckily like elsebeth said earlier i must've been at least running the pos right it paid for itself 3 times over before i lost it so in the end it was a wholely worthwhile experience :)

One thing to learn about EVE is that whatever you do, there's always a fairly good chance that you lose it. What matters is not whether your towers get occasionally blown up - what matters is if they get blown up so much that you are not making profit (or whatever your goal was putting them up).

Heh, I remember someone tried doing that to me once, something very similar, and I was expecting it, so I suicided their hauler as soon as it uncloaked. Before going with the suicide option I was thinking that if someone tried bumping me off, I could have a bumper on hand as well, but suiciding seemed more appropriate. I figured that even if they did nab the tower before I could pop them, it would either drop in the wreck I could scoop, or would go "poof" and no one gets it, but the hauler popped easily well before it got in "scoop to cargo" range... Now that we have the ~Tornado~ that would have been even cheaper / easier.

Kudos to you OP. I once let a tower run out of fuel, and then lost both labs to a suiciode gank. **** hpapens, the important thing is to learn from it and move on.

Nice read, nice comments apart from one moron could there be hope for these forums yet?
If I might add a small tip. If you orbit some thing rather than sitting still it makes you alot harder to bump.

You did good up to C).

Take down everything of value.

Leave the tower up. Fit some ECM, Hardeners, Scramblers and Turrets.

Make no contact with the wardeccers. Try keep away from them.

They then have the choice of taking down a well defended tower with no capital ship support (very very boring indeed), for no reward, or just moving onto their next target.

They will move on.
