It's an idiotic nickname the leader of the Goons endorsed for use by his mindless minions intended as a pejorative term for anyone but them...as though that's pejorative. You get this sort of thing from people who don't have the sense to recognize they generally have bad ideas, and should stick to naming their dogs "Fido", or "Spot". Either that, or wear a flourescent orange "I" on their backs to signify "idiot" so the general public doesn't have to wait to find out. (PUG still means PUG. No one gave anyone permission to change that one.)

Given this beautiful poast, I think we should refrain from using pubbie and call them Vyl Vits from now on.

You flatter me, sir! Were I you I'd keep that under wraps. It could hurt your standing with your fellow Goons!
For the risk you ran to bid me such a high compliment, I applaud your courage. *golf clap*

I heard pubbies are crunchy and chewy and have a bitter after-taste.

What's with this flood of n00b players posting on toons in training that know so very much about EVE as though they've been playing for YEARS? Did something happen during my enforced absence? It's just as strange as believing Goon mutterings are real!

I don't think I have eaten a pubbie. Hm.

Though many posts in this thread have done a good job explaining what it means to BE a pubbie, none have actually said what a pubbie is....now, I could very well be out in deep space, but I believe that pubbie is actually short for pubes.

It's pretty much anyone who has not affiliated themselves with any group or faction in a video game.

Examples in EVE include but are not limited to.

-NPC Corps
-One man corps
-corps where nobody does anything together
-Anyone not associated with GOONs (from a GOON's POV)

Examples in other games

-People who go into game servers alone
-People that aren't part of a clan/guild/ the equivilant
-The people who roam around never talking to anyone
-People that don't work with teammates.

In Ancient Gamerese, a pubbie is anyone not privileged enough to be in whatever social club you choose to be in. If you're a pubbie, you don't sit at the designated "cool table" in the virtual cafeteria.

Genuine question here, are TEST members also classed as pubbies since they are from Reddit and not the SA forums?

Just like you use the word Goon as a dismissive term for our opinions, ideals, and beliefs, we use pubbie in much the same way.

Grumpy Owly is an example of a special subtype of pubbie, known as publord.

The word 'goon' is already pejorative in it's original meaning.
