some (likely) stupid questions

hey guys

currently im thinking about setting up a fuel block production

i have 3 characters with 5 planets each in 0.0 space, currently producing only robotics and coolant, but it wouldnt be a problem at all to set up planets to produce in the right proportions, so that part is kinda already covered

what im worried about more is producing actual fuel blocks, i have been playing eve for more that 2 years, but never actually buildt anything myself

im not looking into getting an industrial tycoon, only the fuel block business is relevant for me right now

the following questions came to my mind

  • do i need BPCs to produce stuff or can i just take a BPO, since researched ones dont seem to be that expensive

  • are there any other skills relevant for me other than Production Efficiency to reduce material needed

  • other things that sound usefull for me are industry, mass production and advanced mass production, am i missing some ?

  • i thought about using a POS in a system with an ice belt and a refinery station to produce them just to be independent from available slots in stations and keep transport costs for ice products as low as possible, is there anything that makes that a stupid idea ?

Industry II
Industry III
Mass Production I (to the level i need to make the whole thing as low maintenance as possible)
Production Efficiency I
Production Efficiency II
Production Efficiency III
Production Efficiency IV
Production Efficiency V

Total time: 20 days, 22 hours, 24 minutes, 55 seconds

please keep in mind that the whole thing should be as low-maintenance as possible

im looking forward to your comments :)

Production Efficiency V + Material Research 40 on the BPO to reduce waste.

Fuel Blocks are manufactured at a high speed. Using a POS specifically for this would be overkill. I don't fell like calculating it, but I think that the amount of fuel PI materials that you will produce in one month can be converted to Fuel Blocks in 1-2 days.

Well you could anchor a POS for 2 days and then take it down when the work is done.

Pos would speed it up, by cutting production time to 75%. But unless you're running your production lines that much, it's not worth it. You'll find plenty of production lines, which while they'll cost you, they'll be /substantially/ cheaper per hour.

On the order of 0.3k, compared to 26k.

Mass production will let you run more than one line. Depending on how much you want to invest, you may not need it at all. a single bpo can produce 600 million worth of fuel blocks, in about 2 days or so. For every line you're running, you'll need a bpo.

Production from a BPO makes more sense in this case, as it is an investment, rather than a cost. (although if you want to amortise the cost over X production runs, that's perfectly acceptable accounting too)

Woo! CSM XI!

If there's some 'ok' moons out there in that system, you could set up a moongoo POS there, and make fuel blocks at that place. Using the moongoo to cover the cost of running the place, it doesn't have to be a profitable moon, just good enough that it covers the cost of fuelling it. Then with leftover grid/cpu you put up a manufacturing array and presto.

You can also put up a refinery for refining ice in it, thoug only turn that on when you need it, as they are very costly grid/cpu wise.

A small tower should do on this, this costs about 150k per hour to run, so if your moongoo you're harvesting is worth 1500 isk per unit, the moon harvester + silo will pay for keeping it up.

Besides the already mentioned things i would strongly suggest you to skill Industry to Level 5 too as it gives you another 8% bonus on production time and will not take that long.
+ If you start to enjoy a little bit of passive income and want to expand your business you would have to skill Industry to 5 anyways.

And yeah the obvious: Minerals/Ice/PI goods you produce are not FREE!Blink
