I want to start getting into pvp pretty fast, Im a couple days away from being able to explore freely and get myself some capital. Im also closing in on level 5 in most autocannon and gunnery skills.

How do I go about joining RvB, as a newbie pilot looking for some pvp experience?

Is there a reason why you think you aren't ready right now?

Why does it have to be RvB? You don't need to be part of anything to pew pew.

Why don't you go into low sec in a cheap frigate and have some sight seeing? You never know what may happen.

iirc, you simply joint the RvB channel (can't remember what it is called off hand) and ask to sign up. I was in and fighting within about 10 minutes.

IMO that's not a good idea. He'll just lose his ship and pod to pirates. I think most standard tech 1 frigates are junk. I for one don't like any of the gallente frigates. It's just one step above a rookie ship.

Like Mekhana said, best and only way to learn is to do it.
Yes, you might lose a ship, pod very unlikely but you can also get out with a killmail. In any case you have learnt something.
T1 frigs are exactly as good as the pilot flying them.
And finally, while all the T1 frigs are nicely balanced, Gallente ones are among the very best.

You can have great fun in RvB and get insane amount of fights in a day, way more than anywhere else in EVE, but you won't learn how to survive and fight in lowsec, or other non-controlled environments. For that you need to fly out and just get the experience, and doing it in cheap ships is easier on the wallet and ego. It's super fun, and lowseccers are pretty chill folks.

His frigate will never win him any fights, and neither would his strategic cruiser or carrier- PVP is not about the ship, it's about the player. You need learn to interpret the information you get via local chat, dscan, killboards and overview, and adjust and execute your tactics accordingly. You want to avoid the fights you can't win, and manipulate the situation so that you get the fight you can win.

This build-up is the major thing in PVP, actual fights (in solo/small gang without logi) are over faster than you can say catschnitzel. You roam, chase, wait and bait until the setting is favourable and you can finally point the other guy.

There are no ships in EVE that can take and win any fight, so yes, why not practice in a small ship, that is cheap, agile (=hard to catch) and extremely fun to fly? It is quite probable that the first ventures into real combat result in a lossmail, but flying a bigger ship will not prevent it.

And finally, there are others in frigates doing exactly the same. Can't say for others, but if I saw a new player in a frig, I wouldn't WTFPWNBBQ him with our BC or T3 gang, I'd get my Incursus out and duel him.

Lowsec is more like a fight club than a deathzone, and people there tend to enjoy good fights more than hisec-style ganks.

Depends

On some parts of lowsec a gf means you jumping on gate with 1-2 buddies, and a gang of 10+ dudes with multiple logi support warps in to greet you.

True story

For the RvB thing, is totally worth it to join, least for a week. Some days will be funner than others, but overall you will learn some valuable lessons.
My advice on enjoying RvB:
* Fit Merlins, get mucho buffer (some fits go up to 10k EHP+). Fleets abund so you can drop tackle to fit buffer
* Don't accept 1 v 111111111 fights. You will loose and learn nothin'
* Have the hulls and modules to fit 20 merlins, in station. Dun go to jita to purchase stuff. Use alts.
* Before joining make tacticals and insta-indocks around every gate and station. They will be very useful.

Well that is something that can't be avoided- I'm not claiming that people would let juicy kills slip away if such happen to drop into their laps :) what I mean is that those guys probable weren't looking for a fight of your size precisely.

Well, in the start the numbers were even, then the cavalry arrived, from 1-2 j away.

Aaanny way, if some1 is srs on going lowsec and hunting, a alt with cloak and combat scanning potential is advisable. Cov ops is a +, but any T1 probing frig will do. Keep the alt 1j in front of your route to scout out stuff and serve as advanced warning.

Or just head over to tama, amamake, Old Man Star and honor tank some frigs. If you manage to evade the gate camps (enter through lowsec entrances) make a safe or 5 and offer a 1v1 in said safe, just have them join your fleet and warp to you. Chances are some1 will take it. Hope you got good 'get pod out of here' skills.

Or just join a PvP corp |o|

Myabe avoid LowSuck, if it's fun your looking for. Seems like every time we get a gang together to screw around there they get freekin hot-dropped. I mean, I know t1 frig and cruiser gangs are scary, but wth.Smile

You should take a look at our killboard if you honestly think that T1 frigates are junk..

Black Rebel Rifter Club

I think you will be pleasantly surprised by just what a T1 frigate can do..

Edit: oh yeah and the Tristan is awesome!! Very under estimated, Gallente are awesome..

Mostly what I see you have are destroyers and tech 2 frigates.

1. Load a hauler with your favorite mods.

2. Fly it to Otela top station. (Red HQ)

3. Apply to join in the list of corps on the right hand station menu.

4. Buy 10 of your favorite T1 frigs there and fit them with the mods you've brought.

5. In neocom/social bring up fleet finder and join fleet. Turn on audio.

6. PEW-PEW

7. Die in 10 glorious fires. That same evening if you can.

8. Buy and fit 10 more of your favorite T1 frigs

9. GOTO 5

Edit. DO NOT apply, then fly hauler to Otela top station. That won't end well for you at all.

<-- this, but also read the RvB rules first on there website, for example i did not know that u cant use T2 logi and also cant use ECM modules (ecm drones are oki), i was in RvB for 3 weeks and had lot of fun, but keep in mind that most fights are T1 frigs or T1 cruiser fights. I also don't know of a reimbursement program, so u have to pay all yourself. They will have common min/max skill fittings in the corp fittings
Also very important, u can't simply shop in Jita anymore after joining RvB. U will have to pay 500mill if u get killed in jita or must leave RvB, so buy your stuff beforehand

The most important rule u should know about RvB is: Do not shoot pods, this is forbidden and if u do so u have to pay the implant costs or also be banned from RvB. We had some "wtf" moments with some new RvB pilots who did actually pod the enemy FC :)

There really is no real reason not to join RvB.

I applied one afternoon, logged an alt for a few hours, came back and had been accepted. I then joined the active fleet and was exploding only a few minutes later. Great fun, and a good way to jump straight into some PvP.

A few things to keep in mind:

-You will need some way to get a lot of ships to thier home system.
Bear in mind, hauling with your in corp character won't be an option.
You will need an alt for this.
Alternatively you can use the corp contracts that have been set up for this reason.

-You will NOT be allowed to enter Jita.

-You will be restricted heavily as to what ships you may use.

-RvB get wardecced aswell, and they won't play fair; something to keep in mind whilst travelling.

-Having just one ship near-by will leave you disappointed, plan your evening ahead of time, log in the night before and haul your ships if you are on a tight playtime schedule.

-You will die in a fire.

-You will have fun.

Join RvB.
