Ill start with a Deffo yes from me, and I hope that more people make thier way here to display thier want for this too.
I think bringing eve into dx11 just for the tesselisation for now, will leave the door open for many more features of the future. a couple of things I can think of for now at this late hour from my bed:

More 'live' lighting!: Although they did not mention it in the demo, the light of the shield effect hitting the asteroid and the hull looked awsome. This lighting could be produced from explosions, lasers, running lights (even spotlights) and engines onto many objects as you fly past! I think on shiny reflective hulls in a fleet, this could make fantastic imersion.

Physx: I know the tec isn't new to dx 11, but space debris off destroyed ships during fights (see latest star trek film for my insperation), and meteor fields to plough through sounds super sexy to me!

Higher resolution textures: as far as I'm aware, directx 11 had better support for higher resolution textures, even if this isn't utilised in the initial rollout I think the future proofing is good.

Overall I love the prospect of even sexier ships, and hope other people agree that spending the time now will help future proof the graphics. I can see so much hard work has been put into to keep dx9 looking so god damn good, but I think it hit its limit some years ago, and there is very little that can be done with the current limitations.

As long as it is optional, as with all games that have DX11 effects, sure.

Meh. I play from 40km away from my ship anyways, I don't pay attention to the minute differences in textures of ships. I just don't want something like this to slow down Eve for pointless (to me) graphical tweaks.

im all for it, but then again im not stuck playing on an older comp. if im not in a blob im getting ~200 frames per second and id love to see that extra graphics power being used rather then rendering framerates that my screen cant even display.

As with every other setting in Eve, I am going to assume there will be quality level options to pick, and with the lod options they had even in the demo (and every demo for DX11 I have ever played with) so no worries for people who worry about frame rates. And many games support Dx9 through to Dx11, so older cars will not have any loss, just gains for those who want it. And as they pointed out that the most popular card is a GTX560, so most people will benifit from this.

This.

But in all honesty dx11 should run better on newer cards than dx9, even if you turn all the features off. Which is a plus for me, because I run quite a few clients at once so anything to decrease the load is welcomed.

I'm all for this. Eve is due for another graphics upgrade and 5 man years really isn't a lot of resource to pull this off. Go for it CCP. Out this year please!

I am always up for graphical improvements . That is as long as it is optional

Fortunately for me i have a very high end pc .So for me DX11 is no problem

Unfortunately for the 200-400 other players i play with they are on laptops or pcs that are capable of playing the game as is . If its is a forced option then i can guarantee that 2/3's of them will cancel their subs with eve .

I also thought the dynamic lighting was the nicest bit of the demo (OK, the physics stuff owned too). The ship itself didn't look all that great, honestly. Yeah :increasedpolycount: and all that, but the surfaces of the hull actually looked worse than most of the faux-metal shaders / effects that already exist in the game. The ship had a high polycount, but that didn't stop it looking like a matte brown turd. I also think that tessellation has the unfortunate side effect of making 3d models look like a poor quality resin-cast-- yeah, there are more polys, but it ends up making everything look "rounded." If its possible to find ways around these defects though, sure, go for it.

Those lighting effects, though. Yes please.

Then have it turned off.

And the graphical improvements aren't pointless. I guess you could call the recent graphical improvements to the game pointless. I guess you want us to all use Quake graphics. If you're going to spend years working on something ambitiious, then at least try to make it look good.

You have my vote, OP.

I support this. The sooner we get the effects we saw in the DX11 demo video, the better. Then maybe asteroid belts will be actual 'debris fields' that ships have to wade through, rather than neatly arranged rock arcs... it'd be interesting to see how the overview handles ever-increasing amounts of broken-off pieces of rock though.

Well if they are all client side generated (IE by DX11) they wont show on overview, just be effects not objects
