Why is hi-sec considered dangerous?

I've been playing, off and on, for about 2 years. Never once have I been ganked in hi-sec. Not once. Not even when i was a total noob. I'm beginning to think there's something wrong with me. Are my ships not good enough to get blown up?

What do you fly, how is it fit, and where do you fly it?

I wrote some true EVE stories! And no, they're not of the generic "my 0.0 alliance had lots of 0.0 fleets and took a lot of 0.0 space" sort. Check them out here:

Also, do you AFK at all?

It's not dangerous, per se. It's just that flying the wrong ship in the wrong place at the wrong time could lead to some pretty explosions. Especially if you're hauling expensive items in an industrial, or you're mining ice.

Because stupid people are stupid and end up falling for stupid tricks more often in high sec.

It takes a bit more of a brain to live in low sec.

Null sec isn't much better in a lot of places.

Because in highsec you have to let the enemy throw the first punch.

Because people think that it isn't, which gets them killed as they let their guard down.

…pretty much the same reason as why low and null are dangerous.

Its dangerous in the sense that you don't know if one of those people in local are looking to gank you. In lowsec and null, its much easier to tell, since anyone that won't shoot you for the most part, is blue.

My very first day in EVE, I undocked for the first time from a non starter station, Amarr, I think. I was all thrilled and excited, taking in the beauty and admiring the ships around me. Next thing I remember was waking up in my clone. I figured out later that it was some yahoos having fun with smartbombs.

It was a good lesson. I have not been ganked since in the 6 or 7 years I've been in the game.

well it's dangerous if you're an extremely stupid carebear who is also so lazy that you refuse to move ultra-expensive cargo in an orca or a durable ship or defend themselves or even just make multiple trips so yes a lot of chatter coming from highsec is players that are going on endlessly about how highsec is extremely dangerous

In general, your ship isn't worth ganking unless there's a profit margin of some 50 mil per ganker for the suicide gankers.

Keep your fits below 1 bil in total value and you're safe.

For ships fit with officer/deadspace modules costing 1 billion+, it's only a matter of time before you get blown up.

And there is NOTHING you can do to prevent or pre-empt this. This is why high-sec is more dangerous than null. People in null freak out as soon as they see a name they don't recognize in local, lol.

Start doing something relevant or worth their time and you'll get all the ganks you crave for.

This.

I got lured in with the free-loot-in-a-can reel. I've been paranoid ever since. Which is one reason why I've never been ganked. The other reason is that I avoid Jita like an STD.

Come to think of it, hisec is a lot like hookers...to be totally safe you avoid them entirely.

I like to lick things.

Haunting the forums since 03.

There are professionals you can talk to if you feel need to get blown up in highsec.

If you take all the sand out of the box, only the cat poo will remain.

Nope. I was shot at while flying a shuttle with one T1 module in its hold.

I've lost plenty of ships in HS, but all were my fault (stole loot from those at war, stayed in space too long after hoping for more). In 2 years of play though, never have I been ganked.

Wait... there was that one guy who ganked me in his Zealot with me in a salvager fit Inquisitor. I'm still scratching my head at that one.
