Hi guys,

I am looking to buy a new graphic card for my desktop. One that I have, can't support EVE on max(high details) and not loose frame rate in some of mission rooms.

So, I am looking for advice on what to get.

Here is my current configuration:
Operating System MS Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1
CPU Intel Core i5 750 @ 2.67GHz/Lynnfield 45nm Technology
RAM Patriot Viper CL9, PVT36G1600ELK 6.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 668MHz (9-9-9-25)
Motherboard ASUSTeK Computer INC. P7P55D (LGA1156)
Graphics ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series - EAH5770 CU CORE/2DI/1GD5/A 1GB DDR5
Monitor VX2433wm @ 1920x1080
Hard Drive 625GB Western Digital WDC WD6400AAKS-00A7B2
Audio AMD High Definition Audio Device
Power supply CFT-750-14CS

Budge for graphic card upgrade is around 300 EUR.

Shoot.

I won't give any specific advice (but I will be watching this thread to see what other's say, because I'm interested also), but in general since Eve is optimized for Nvidia, I'd advise starting with those cards as opposed to Radeon.

670 GTX when it gets released next month...for teeny tiny bit more than 300 €

or take your girlfriends jewelry to the pawn shop and get the 680 GTX tomorrow.

This space for rent.

If you want gamer card, minimum on nVidia side is GTX 460. Next in line is 560.

I will vouch for the GTX460, its a great card for Eve never had any issues with it. Runs Eve with everything set on full, the Captains quarters can be a bit choppy in certain places if you have post processing on High and Interior Effects on High, but other then that it runs smooth. 1920x1080 Resolution

But I'm personally really looking forward for the GTX670, pretty sure thats my next card.

Oh and don't forget about the GTX660 that will be out this summer. I'd bet it would be around 200-250 EUR price wise

you should at least get a sata hard drive or SSD.
you ram sounds strange, aint it always 1333 or 1600? what do you mean by 668mhz
already suggested by above, wait for 670 or 560ti, or 570

incidentally if you want to get an A-T-I, the model number is 6-9-5-0 find it and skill yourself.
don't forget to check if you PSU has enough juice

Man comes in and asks about graphics card recommendations, first thing you comment on is an expensive hard drive upgrade with a relatively little effect on performance.

1333 and 1600 MHz are the front side bus speeds.

668 MHz is not front side bus speed. It is memory speed.

Run CPU-z, look at your FSB speed, then look at the memory speed.

Updated memory info. From what I heard so far, I think i will wait for 670 GTX.

If a GTX460 can run EvE with everything set to HIGH is it worth spending the extra on a 560/560ti ?

I'm not interested in WIS, so any extra to make this look smooth would be a waste of time.

I'm currently looking at replacing my GT240, running a 1920x1080 screen.

Would the 460 be a safe bet, then do a big upgrade if/when the fabled tessellation arrives?

I've been using a GTX460 for a year now, and it has never let me down. Even if I run three accounts it performs faultlessly.

Cheers for the quick reply, they do go for around £30 cheaper, so looks like that's they way to go.

Now to find a cheap one on flea bay.

I can run EVE with everything on high and it works. Thing is, over time this graphic card that I have starts to overheat 80C+. Also, when I run dual EVE accounts i have to optimize EVE for memory else graphic card goes up 90C+

Those are main reason why I am looking to upgrade.

Then that sounds like you might need to look for a better cooling system, maybe...

I also think you have heat issues. Work on cooling instead of getting new card. For starters try running with open case, just take the side panels off the case, see if that helps.

Well that didn't take long to go back on my previous post, just managed to pick up a month old GTX560 on eBay this evening for £75.

Must have been fate as when I searched the listing only had 2 mins left to run.

Now to work out if my PSU is up to the job!!!!

Unless I read wrong, I noticed the OP is using an IDE ATA hard drive, that thing has got to be pretty old, he should look into its impending demise
he should at least change to SATA HDD, and those things are not that expensive. Better be prepared ahead of time than you know

What power supply unit are you using in your rig right now OP?

Open the case and blow out the dust. It can cause a lot of heat issues.

A new HDD is a good idea aswell, somehow that IDE monstrosity feels slow... Though it won't impact ingame performance THAT much.

As for graphics, gtx 560 is your best bet at the moment. It's "somewhat" futureproof, being able to run BF3 at max settings comfortably, and not too expensive.

If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all...

Info on power supply has been updated.

HDD is Western Digital hard disk WD6400AAKS
It has interface: SATA 3 Gb/s
Form Factor: 3.5", 7200 rpm
Capacity : 640 GB
Cache: 16 MB

I don't think it's case cooling. I have nothing below graphic card and on top of it is Noctua NH-D14, keeping my processor properly cooled plus there are two external coolers that are sucking hot air out of case. Though it may be problem with cooling on graphic card it self. Can any of you recommend any 3th party cooling systems for graphic cards?

Graphic card , as you can see it doesn't have proper stock cooling.

I've found these on net, did anyone had any previous experience with these?
