Which ship race?

I rolled an amarr as my main race. Now from what I heard, race doesn't really matter because you can cross train into any ship. My question is, my goal is to do exploring mostly with mining thrown in when I want some downtime. So I'm curious as to what race would give me the best bonuses/abilities. Thank you in advance.

For exploration I am not sure what I would recommend. I prefer the Pilgrim for that but it depends very much on what exactly your exploration target is. Gallente has the worst exploration frigate (Helios) fitting wise, but it is a great PVP scout frigate.

The Osprey (Caldari) is the best mining cruiser.
You can also mine in Battleships. Several are good for that. I will ridicule you of course if I see it Lol
Instead of using battleships most people train for specialized mining ships of the ORE faction.
Most used are the Retriever, and when people get really serious, the Hulk.

The best guide on mining is Halada's Complete Miner's Guide Version 3.0

Depending on which faction space you're in (or move to), ships like a Drake or tengu are easy for exploration in high sec and the osprey is, as stated above, a decent mining cruiser. You can also use the Arbitrator hull for either mining or exploration, downside is that their drone dps is on the low side but they have ease of use and lots of free high slots for useful stuff.

Excellence is not a skill, it's an attitude.

If you're just starting out, I would recommend the Heron for your scanning.

Drakes are simply amazing overall. Some people have even called for them to be nerfed -_-

Overall, I would say go with Caldari. The Osprey is an amazing miner and the Heron is a very nice frigate to get into the scanning down of anoms. Plus, I doubt anyone can argue that the Tengu is not one of the best Plex runners out there.

Each race has some nice exploration ships.
It depends a lot where you're going to do the exploration.

For example gallente with myrm, domi and ishtar are quite versatile and the ishtar can tan a surprising amounts if you're in either serpentis or guristas space.

Minmatar and caldari have the benefit of being able to switch the damage types to suit whatever you're shooting, amarr have the benefit of no need for ammo and either really long optimals on the short range guns or comparatively good tracking on long range guns.

Overall drake and tengu seem to be the most versatile and easy to use, but if you want to do something else than exploration there is no simple answer.

After all by the time you'll be ready to fly the nice ships they'll probably get changed anyway especially that CCP has announced major re-balancing of all ships in the upcoming year.

My advice - pick the ones you think are nice and adjust your region / playstyle accordingly

Amarr has the most versatile and durable true exploration frig - the anathema.

It's pretty much impossible to beat the bang for the buck you'll get out of using a Retriever mining barge if you want to mine, but Mining Barge is a non-racial ship class.
