You should have been banned. Permanently. Period.

The fact that you were not is causing me right now to seriously reconsider how much longer I wish to keep playing this game.

This has been hanging over my head since Thursday when I stumbled away from the Alliance Panel with a vague sense that I had done something horrible. I didn't know the extent of how much of a shitheel I had been until today, when footage of the presentation went up. As many of you now know, I gave out the in-game character name of a Mackinaw miner if anyone had wanted to blow him up - except that I was so smashed that I didn't recall exactly what I said (as anyone who was there can tell you). When I came to the forums the other day and saw threads complaining about my behavior - not remembering what I'd said - I assumed that I was enduring the usual anti-Goonswarm trolls, and posted something like "deal with it~" in my usual "The Mittani" way.

Then I landed, and saw the article listing my actual quote.

Christ.

I feel absolutely ashamed of my behavior at the Alliance Panel. It's one thing to play a villain in an online roleplaying game - when I post on these forums or on twitter, I usually do so as 'The Mittani', and do my level best to convince everyone that I'm an unrepentant space villain, as that kind of facade provides an in-game advantage to me and my alliance. But I am not that character in real life, as anyone who has met me can attest. I went way, way, /way/ past the line on Thursday night by mocking the Mackinaw miner at a real-life event. I, as a person, am not the entity that I play in EVE; I am not actually a sociopath or a sadist, and I certainly don't want people to kill themselves in real life over an internet spaceship game, no matter what I may say or do within the game itself. CCP may say 'EVE is Real', but EVE is not real - and the line between the game and reality should not be overstepped.

I'm relieved to discover that the Mackinaw miner is doing fine and mining away, despite being blown up by Goonswarm in-game. He deserves, and he has, my heartfelt apologies - here in public as well as a private apology. There's no excuse for what I did - while some might try to use my inebriation as a mitigating factor, I put myself in that compromised mental state, and the guilt of that is entirely mine.

If I could go back in time and not have included the slide mentioning the miner, I would do so. While the Eve Online character "The Mittani" would never apologize for any sort of villany in game, I myself, as Alex Gianturco, feel utterly ashamed and sickened by my behavior.

You showed the world your true colours that night, you're just another typical bully.
Not only gets off on other peoples misery, but has to publicly shame them as well.
This game has just been providing you with a safe medium for you to act out who you really are with no consequences, I am glad your true personality has leaked out.
You can't separate The Mittani and Alex Gianturco, it is only you, another douche who discovered the internet.

Noone intended incidents like this to happen, but it will happen again in the future on "Polarbeer" Fanfests again in the future.

I support the 1 month ban and being kicked from CSM the remaining period. But the next period too is a bit drastic.
Poster rage is non constructive for CSM.

Right, next period is really a drastic reduce of what it should be.

A person as this should NEVER EVER be allowed to be let anywhere NEAR Fanfest, CSM, ISD or whatever!

Thank god fanatics such as yourself arn't in decision making positions.

I apolozie, you are right.

EVE would be much better if all the CSM members would call out for killing people they don't like.

Sorry that I didn't see that in the first place.

Not everything is black and white, and please stop putting words in my mouth... I don't know (or even want to know) where your hands have been.

He gave up the chair of the CSM as he realised it was a clash of interests with him as a leader of a bloodthirsty alliance.
He kept his seat on the CSM as he didn't want to let down the 10,065 people that voted for him (and thus not make their votes pointless).
He got a standard ban of 30 days for breaking the Terms of Service which is perfectly reasonable.

All seems fine to me. I guess he'll just carry on being the strongest leader of the strongest alliance in EVE online.

Hm, he told people to harass an individual so that he would commit suicide, with the clear knowledge of the possible outcomes. There are a large number of states (and now national legislation being drafted) that imposes criminal penalties for such actions.

This individual thought it would be funny, comical, a joke, if an individual killed themselves due to their actions. I don't know what world you live in, but in mine, that is a sick perverse individual who does not need to be mixed with the rest of society. This is not because of alcohol, he composed the slides sober and laughed while presenting them, he then proceeded to make an overt threat on this guys life.

Being banned from CCP's game is the least of The Mittani's worries, he should be concerned about his morals and values and the type of life any of his possible children will live in. He should also be worried about possible legal action taken against him. Here is a nice little site detailing various state level legislation's around the United States.

CCP may be an Icelandic company, but the arm of the US Justice Department is quite long indeed....

(shrug) It may impact how we are perceived by the rest of the gaming world, but there isn't anything we can do about it now. The barn doors are open and the horse is gone. Besides, in six months he's going to be joking and bragging about how he got away with telling his alliance to kill the guy.

I do hope CCP bans him. Not for what he did....

....but what an emboldened mittani is going to do next.

This.

I like the Mittani, I like the crazy arrogance, I like that he is the most powerful player in EVE.

However, CCP has to distance themselves from this sort of thing, they have to ban him. It's business.

What will really be interesting is if The Mittani gets banned and tries to retaliate. Are EVE and CCP strong enough to survive the wrath of the game's most powerful player?

Hate to say I told you so but.....

The Mittani's plan to "burn jita" is the most meta event to ever hit EVE.

He is testing his power against the very developer that has created the game which has allowed him to satiate his immense ego.

This IS exciting. This IS EVE. What will happen on April 28th will be a landmark day for this game. Casual vs hardcore, The Mittani vs CCP, whatever... EVE IS real.

Goons and the like are angry that their votes went up in smoke, their leader bowed out of the CSM and there's a 30 day ban in place.

On the other side of the coin people are angry Mittens will still be in the game, that he went too far and isn't honestly sorry.

I say CCP handled it just fine. Both sides are p!ssed off which means a middle ground has been reached. Straight

You should understand the fact that there is a difference between Eve and the reality.

I agree with the fact that The Mittani took risks playing with the thin line between reality and virtuality. But the last days reminded him the difference .

I hope this experience will help him to understand the limits and the danger to be on first place on the stage.
