I hereby declare the unnamed Mackinaw pilot, a martyr of the Miner's Union and henceforth shall be one of many that will perish in the struggle for liberty of the worker class.

It’s funny how everyone keeps saying that Mittani made one mistake and apologized for it, so he should be forgiven. The real issue here is not that one mistake. It is the issue of being allowed this type of behavior for years. Goons leadership has been promoting and encouraging this behavior to all their members and allies for years in their speeches, on the forums, and in game. They find out something about a person, being their picture, their location, their personal sorrow of losing a parent and they exploit it to the point of that person ether can’t take the abuse anymore and quits the game or he fights back and asks CCP for help to curb the abuse.

Here is the real problem. CCP has done NOTHING to curb the abuse of their player base that goons leadership encourages their members to inflict on their in game enemies. Never any warnings to the leadership, never any consequences for their behavior, once in a while they will gag some gonnie noob for a week or ban him for a day. So goon leadership basically has a free reign on player abuse and CCP stays idle in the background doing nothing about it while all the time being aware that it is being done. Now they want to blame Mittani for going over the line? Ha. They made their bed, but now they don’t want to lay in it? Too fkn bad.

CCP deserves all the bad press they are getting for letting this **** go on for so long. I don’t blame Mittani one bit. He’s only doing what he was allowed to do for years. To him, it’s business as usual. It’s like a mob boss ordering his underlings to kill and saying he’s not responsible because he didn’t pull the trigger. CCP is to blame for not taking actions about the abuse inflicted on their player base, not Mittani or the goons.

I for one love this ****. Hope Jita along with EVE burns to the fkn ground.

I wonder what' the "real issue" is here.

The fact Mittani spoke the pilots name (in-game only as I understand). [fail to see how that's a big deal]

Goons ganking in hi-sec. [it gets boring up here]

Said gankee claims to be suicidal. [don't care, suicide makes you weak; i hate weak]

CCP isn't kissing the ass of the carebears (more; miss the old days...) [don't like it L-E-A-V-E]

...probably a combination of all four.

Either way...

MITTENS (the kitten), YOU BETTER NOT GIVE UP ON US! You're our only hope for HTFU!

What's funny about this thread is, there's less than one-tenth posts than views. How many Goons does it take to make a threadnaught? One for each key on a keyboard!

The right to free speech doesn't automatically carry with it the right to be taken seriously.

OK.. I really do not know what to say. I am at a loss for words with all that is going on.

I guess I should say that this is not about someone alt in eve.
This is not about someone losing isks they worked for.
This is not about someone losing a machanaw in the game.
This is not something I started. I was really shocked to see the video monday night when I finaly had time.

This is all really about a person that is over joyed in making some one hurt as much as they can in real life not in game.
Going by his power point I have to say he thought about it long before getting drunk.
If thowing my name out there was something he planed to do or not that I can not say, and we will never know for sure.
But when reflect the way he talked about my mail. I am sure that was an option he was holding on to and tossing up becouse he was really enjoying tomenting someone.

I am sorry this is not the alt in the game that is talk but the person playing the alt.

There are allot of people out there that have real life problems, but they are warned when they join Eve. Whats said and done in the game doesn't bother me, its all part of Eve.

To me this **** got real and hurt full when I watched a video where a complete stranger urged other complete strangers to try make me kill myself.

That "kid" is a 42 year old divorced man with no verifiable history illness or history of suicide attempts.

Just clarifying.

Prove your regret by stepping down. From watching you at Fanfest, either you are a fantastic Actor/RPer, able to stay in character the entire time you were there, or more likely, you really are the asshat you acted like.
Either way you do not handle power well. You should let someone else step up and serve as Chairman. Any of the other CSM would be a better chairman. Any one of them could bring more dignity and common sense to the office that you are able to.

This has been hanging over my head since Thursday when I stumbled away from the Alliance Panel with a vague sense that I had done something horrible. I didn't know the extent of how much of a shitheel I had been until today, when footage of the presentation went up. As many of you now know, I gave out the in-game character name of a Mackinaw miner if anyone had wanted to blow him up - except that I was so smashed that I didn't recall exactly what I said (as anyone who was there can tell you). When I came to the forums the other day and saw threads complaining about my behavior - not remembering what I'd said - I assumed that I was enduring the usual anti-Goonswarm trolls, and posted something like "deal with it~" in my usual "The Mittani" way.

Then I landed, and saw the article listing my actual quote.

Christ.

I feel absolutely ashamed of my behavior at the Alliance Panel. It's one thing to play a villain in an online roleplaying game - when I post on these forums or on twitter, I usually do so as 'The Mittani', and do my level best to convince everyone that I'm an unrepentant space villain, as that kind of facade provides an in-game advantage to me and my alliance. But I am not that character in real life, as anyone who has met me can attest. I went way, way, /way/ past the line on Thursday night by mocking the Mackinaw miner at a real-life event. I, as a person, am not the entity that I play in EVE; I am not actually a sociopath or a sadist, and I certainly don't want people to kill themselves in real life over an internet spaceship game, no matter what I may say or do within the game itself. CCP may say 'EVE is Real', but EVE is not real - and the line between the game and reality should not be overstepped.

I'm relieved to discover that the Mackinaw miner is doing fine and mining away, despite being blown up by Goonswarm in-game. He deserves, and he has, my heartfelt apologies - here in public as well as a private apology. There's no excuse for what I did - while some might try to use my inebriation as a mitigating factor, I put myself in that compromised mental state, and the guilt of that is entirely mine.

If I could go back in time and not have included the slide mentioning the miner, I would do so. While the Eve Online character "The Mittani" would never apologize for any sort of villany in game, I myself, as Alex Gianturco, feel utterly ashamed and sickened by my behavior.

I call BS. You are not sorry and never were beyond the fact that you are sorry you were justifiably punished for your behavior.

I have been so severely depressed I was suicidal for a very long time. For years! Life is better now because I busted my ass and made it better but I can absolutely appreciate what your victim felt then.

Someone's very real life is worth more than your account on a video game.

You should have been banned. Permanently. Period.

The fact that you were not is causing me right now to seriously reconsider how much longer I wish to keep playing this game.

Just finished watching the video clip of the Alliance Panel. It was one minor sentence that The Mittani said under the influence of alcohol. He apologized for it. End of story. This entire issue has been completely been blown out of proportion. I've personally been unable to login to EVE much because I'm currently deployed to Afghanistan, but the news has made its way all the way out here (thank you ****** desert interwebs.)

Anyway, the man had one minor slip up of a mere sentence and has more than paid for it. I personally don't think he should step down from his CSM position but that's only my opinion. As bad as the Goons' perception is, it's still a legit style of gameplay. I might not think highly of it, and neither might most others, but not everyone can be the 'Hero of New Eden'. And if people fall for the trickery and asshatery of the Goons then its that person's fault and no one elses. EVE is meant to be a hard game, grow up or GTFO

To The Mittani, you've put yourself in a seriously high spotlight position. You should know to handle yourself with better tact and profesionalism knowing that many EVE players worldwide are able to watch what you say and do during the fanfest stream and the recorded video thereafter. I understand you're at fanfest having a great time getting drunk with all the other EVE players from around the globe, but still.. One slip up for the world to see, and all this unnecessary drama comes from it. The bigger you are, the harder you fall. Learn from this, adapt, overcome, and good luck running for CSM8 next year

To the miner wiz guy person, sorry for your RL issues, we all have RL issues. I'd give all my assets and my wallet away (not really) just to get to see my wife for a few days while I'm out here. If you have RL issues, leave it at the login screen. EVE is a game, as much as CCP makes it "REAL" it's still a video game. Anyone who takes EVE or any video game too seriously needs to have their head checked or seek some sort of mental or behavioral health service. Everyone loses a ship or suffers a substantial loss every once in a while, yeah it sucks, but you adapt, LEARN from your mistakes, and move on. If you don't learn then its your own fault.
