What is your monitor? Make/Model.
Does it have a "Dynamic brightness" function on it? Quite a few monitors will adjust contrast and brightness levels based on what is shown on the screen. Try looking in the monitors menu.

I’ve reported a similar problem in another thread whereby when I exit Eve to the desktop the screen remains dimmed. A quick [Ctrl], [Alt], [Del] to start Task Manager then immediately hit exit restores the screen back to normal brightness.

This was an old problem some time ago (last year I think) but didn’t effect me at that time as I was using another laptop.

Current system; Dell Inspiron laptop, Intel dual core, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 graphics, 4 Gigs ram, Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

I have exactly the same problem on my notebook. Only the desktop and everything besides the EVE tab gets dimmed and the brightness adjustment buttons stop working. The EVE tab always remains at normal brightness when i switch back to it. Opening the task manager instantly brings back the normal brightness to the desktop.

Same problem for me, only way to get the brightness to go back to normal is I hit Winkey + L and relogin to desktop.

the game dims the screen in windows 7

I found a crappy work around by right clicking the exe, go to compatibility and put check box in Disable Desktop Composition.

For some reason when alt tabbing or logging out of Eve it leaves your desktop dimmed and brightness controls won't work, you either have to press Win + L to force a relogin to desktop, reboot, or change your resolution to something and change it back.

I really hope they fix this as it's annoying

but eve is fine full brightness, but when you alt tab or exit the game the screen is permanently dimmed until you do one of the tricks mentioned above.

disabling windows composition seems to be a workaround but it screws up windows desktop

I don't have this problem.

EVE is just really ducking dark while in space no matter what I do.

Nvidia 550M 1GB LCD backlit Asus laptop display. It looks OK during 1 second after I alt tab back into EVE, and then BOOM, total ducking darkness.

EDIT: I solved my issue. I had both Intel and discreet Nvidia graphics on a laptop, so it works along the lines of nvidia sending the rendered image first to the intel chipset, before reaching the monitor.

The birghtness contrast and gamma settings were in the Intel graphics control panel, not in the Nvidia. The default settings were just trying to boast the LED backlight technology and reduced the brightness and gamma dramatically.
