Frig Tourney - Advice sought

So my mains corp is holding a frig tourney this weekend.

This has led me into a connundrum... Namely what to fly. He can do all min/gal/cal frigs well and short of a rifter i cant see which would come out on top.

As this is a tourney theres no need for the standard tackle, its all about being the one that doesnt run or die.

So i ask you, eve forum warriors, What ship would you fly?

I should also point out, only T1 frigs, T2 mods allowed

If its 1v1 rather than royal rumble style then maybe a Punisher with AC's. Though a lot of the time it has more to do with the skill (not SP) of the pilot flying the ship than anything. Just go with what you are most comfortable flying.

I personally would fly a Rocket Kestral but that's just cos I would want not to fly a Rifter so then if I beat a Rifter I can laugh at the pilot for losing a 1v1 verses a Caldari ship...

The standard answer to these things (if ECM is allowed) is a Griffin. Doubly so if you know what your opponent is going to be flying.

Griffin is way too fragile, weak on dps, and it just doesn't put enough ecm alone to keep opponent permajammed. At most, neither of you will be able to kill. They may very well just tank you.

Rifter only gained its status due to the gtfo power. If you have to go toe to toe and stay, it's not the strongest boat.

A good place to start would be some of the bigger, beefier but slower frigates. Choices that normally don't do well in the wild may work here. Something weird, like an overtanked, no prop, light missile Kestral may surprise you. Tristan is another one. Punisher would be a more conventional and dependable choice. But you mentioned that you can only fly the other 3 races. It's Caldari counterpart, Merlin, in my opinion, isn't that great. The best choice may depend on which race you have the most SP in.

Swap to a AB if you people will have scrams. Only use cap booster when needed, as keeping it on will make you run out of cap boosters quickly. Try not to get primaried and shot at until there is like 1-2 frigs left, just then go in and shoot and tank

My former corp once had a frig tournament where I used a very silly rifter setup... 10 MN Afterburner and one or two missile launcers, the rest filled with auxillary powercores to make this stuff fit. Orbiting the enemy at 20 km and slowly wearing him down with missiles was great fun and actually worked for the tournament.

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

Last tourney i saw Arti punishers destroyed everything.
I dont normally troll, but when i do i do it on General Discussion.

our corp also had a frig tourny recently, and suprisinly I won, and with a Merlin to boot

can't recall my exact fit, but it was something like blaster/rockets for highs, med shield extender, web and invul in the mids (no warp-offs allowed, so no need for point) and a micro aux. core and a mag-stab in the lows (we didn't use rigs, and it was all t1 gear for our tourny, keeping it cheap as we've got a lot of new people)

1v1 ladder style tourny, i trashed a rifter in my first fight, was down to 30% armour against a kessy (rocket fit, like the one a few posts up)

final fight was a close-call against a punisher if i recall. which ended with me at about 10% hull and him exploding!

Ended up going with a variation (read cheaper) on Lois' rifter and won the tourney Cool
