No Combat Sounds!

I am new to Eve, and have been enjoying it so far. However, the other day, all my combat-related noises have completely disappeared. I still have normal sounds...the normal ambient music, clicking things, warping, etc. But when I enter combat, I no longer get any "combat music", my weapons make no sound, and it seems like my weapons no longer even have an animation (muzzle flashes, etc.). Everything was fine for the first few days, and now I am on day 3 of no combat sound. It makes combat rather dull with no weapon noises and just the boring ambient music. I am running Eve on a Mac, if that makes a difference.

I have filed a petition, but so far the GMs have no been able to help. I have tried rebooting the client, clearing my cache, and manually downloading some patch a GM linked me to. Someone in the rookie help channel told me to use the Eve Repair Tool, but as far as I can tell there is no Mac repair tool (the one on the Eve site is a .exe file). I also tried switching ships to see if just my main ship was bugged somehow, to no avail.

Has anyone encountered something like this? Any ideas how I might restore my combat sound? I have been enjoying Eve so far, but this is a rather annoying problem for a new player and I kind of don't even want to play anymore until I get the sound fixed.

Make your own sounds. Just start saying "pew pew pew!". Maybe record yourself and overlay it a few times and just replay the recording. Best SFX ever!

Just kidding. Clear your game cache and restart EvE. That fixes a lot of weird things.

Bah...I forget where exactly the game cache is. Somewhere in the ESC menu. Someone wanna chime in on that one?

Had this myself several times since the last patch or two. Only way I've found is to restart the game. Sometimes it's fine for hours, this morning sound vanished after just five minutes or so.

Welcome to eve... you will find that this game has more bugs than a beta...

Seeing as I actually read your post unlike some... if the GM can't help ask it to be esclated to someone who knows the game seeing as you rebooted eve and already cleared your cache... that is pretty much the normal steps...

Also get a PC.

If you're talking about the cache you can clear by hitting the Escape button, and under the Reset Settings tab, the button "Clear my cache", I already tried that, and it did not work.

Not really you'll generally be ignored to be honest, although as CCP is pretending to ignore their forums currently they might give you help here to avoid being in the other threads Big smile

I would find this joke funny if I could find something other than this line when I try to search the web to find a solution to my sound problem.
