Hi guys.

I have a minmatar alt that i kinda inherited (when my missus stopped playing) that is freakishly focused down the gunnery line (11.2m sp total, 8.2m sp in gunnery) and i occasionally use her to run level 4's for republic fleet when i've got nothing better to do.

I use a maelstrom, t2 tank, t2 large guns and it does alright i suppose, but its nothing spectacular. my main flies tengu and roflstomps missions if i ever choose to do em (he lives in null atm).

I have some cash floating around and was wondering if theres any point picking up a machariel and some shiney mods for it. the way i figure it'd only take a handful of missions to make up the % lost if i decided to sell the mach+mods back to sell orders if i didnt want it.

but, i know that machs are awesome etc etc, and i love they way they look, but would there actually be a significant, or noticable, difference in completion times using the mach over the maelstrom?

Yes, that should be the only answer you need. You won't regret buying a Mach

Machariel will mission-complete faster than similarly kitted-out maelstrom. On purely rational-economics ground, though, it's a bit difficult to justify. On other grounds? Well that's why I fly mission-runner mach and leave my maelstroms in hangar.

I did run maelstroms in w-space tho ... before I embraced the dark-side and discovered caldari ships and missiles.

Mach relies on gank to a great extent, although her tank is not to be sneezed at. She kills the NPCs quickly, and when the little guys get close enough to be untrackable (they usually run into a wall of projectiles well before close enough) the mach has a decent drone bay to provide second-line defences and put an end to their irritation.

Solo AE4 bonus room, no probs providing you're careful and not taking her tank for granted ... unlike tengu / rattlesnake etc where you can take tank pretty much for granted. Only problem missions I've faced in mach have been some of the lvl4 amarr encounter storylines ... pumping out lots and lots of EM / thermal damage.

I guess I am almost a 'vet' by now. Hopefully not too bitter and managing to help more than I hinder. I build and sell many things, including large collections of bookmarks.

Right now I wouldn't go straight for a Mach. If you only have 3M SP in non-gunnery skills, I doubt there are enough support skills to make a Mach really shine. I would stick with a Mael while you get your support skills up before jumping into such an expensive ship.

If you can fly a Maelstrom a Mach will knock your socks off.

cheers for the replies guys, i'll try it out later this week, i dont actually have gal bs4 yet.

as for not enough support skills, to be honest 3m sp focused into core skills (capacitor skills, necessary shield tanking skills, a good level of navigation skills) is more than enough for a mission running ship, its not like missions are hard. you dont *need* all lvl 5's, thats just gravy. i can eft warrior up fits for the mach and everything i try comes out either cap stable, or with more than enough cap to not have to worry while sporting reasonable defence figures.

from what i've read the best support skills for mach ARE the gunnery skills ;)

^ This TBH.

Playing a Mach after Tengu is a lot different.
Tengu hits up to 100km for full dmg, no fallof & optimal games and tanks the living crap out of whole rooms.
Reasonable fit gives around 700dps at max range.

Never try anything similar with the Mach!! :)

You have the sig twice the size of tengu, you dont have shield boost bonus, your dps at max range is...well...crap.
Ship is mobile and fast like a cruiser, with AB you push 600m/s, you can push 900+ DPS but mostly at close ranges.
At full range you can snipe frigates and kill them in 1-2 hits, you get 3.5 sec RoF, cruisers and BC die reasonably fast 2-3 salvos....BS take a bit more work. But once you get closer....o boy, you will tear them apart, and you have to see it to believe it.

Angel exy bonus room is way more easy than with the Tengu, just snipe 3 cruise missile launchers & few frigs coming your way, and charge in the blob guns blazing ripping them apart as you lock them. Missions finally become fun to play.

Mission completion times will go down a lot, Angel Exy ( and bonus room) with Tengu are 1h+, hovering around 70-80 minutes, depending on your skills and your effort to change missiles for frigates and BS. Mach will do it under 1 hour.
Pirate Invasion with Sanshas took 30min+ with Tengu, with mediocre skills in the Mach you will do it in 15mins, or less.

And best thing is, you get a pretty big tank to play around, you dont have to spend 1-2 bill for the fit.

Once you go Mach, you never go back. :)
When i had time (and will to play), i had a lot of fun with Mach, never touched Tengu after it.

If you do the math, you will see the damage is signification higher. The falloff, I hear, makes it "Caldariesk" in terms of range. I don't fly one yet, but it is on my shopping list.

In terms of selling, check the ship and BPC cost. You may be able to turn a profit if you don't like it.

In 5 years of playing eve, I've never met a single person who didn't like the Mach lol. It's always near the top of my "If I could only ever fly one ship" list.

Gankwise it's the equal of Marauders while being worlds quicker to train for, it's a battleship sized boat that flies like a cruiser, it's in game model is bigger than some Carriers (invoking penis envy in capital ships is always good) and it's only weakness in missions is that for sansha/blood/drones the nightmare is a bit better.

I use a mach to wtfpwn anomalies in null sec (bounty ticks comparable to what super carriers make, for 1/15th the price lol) and then I trained an alt to use one in empire lvl 4s and as fire support in lvl 5s, the DPS it does lets you do those gated lvl 5 missons really quickly and get out. After I get my mach alt to a reasonable level I'm training him for a Nightmare.

I will literally fly to Iceland , pitch tent outside ccp headquarters and go on a hunger strike for like 15 minutes or so if they ever nerf my Mach!

A Mach, or any other BS, won't even come close to a 1850 dps Thanny, much less mom, when it comes to sanctums.

Mach is good for mission blitzing, but unlike something like Tengu, requires a bit of fineness in the tanking department.

LOL, funny when someone says something provably wrong. EFTwarrior much?

I get 30 mil ticks from my mach doing pirate gate havens (you'll notice I never said anything about "Sanctums", Sanctums are simply homes for unimaginative ratters lol, havens and forsaken hubs are better). Pirate Gate havens spawn ships within a couple km of the gate. Great for a minmatar/angel battleship...

In Guristas Space ,sit tech 2 fitted mach on pirate gate, activate 9 mil isk Dread Guristas (Kinetic) Smart Bomb (to pop the frigs except for the despoilers that zoom out to orbit at 16 km, just lock those and pop them as they move away from you), use guns to slaughter battleships before they even get past 10km from you and NEVER deploy drones with the smartie on (not like i've ever done that like 6 or 7 times or nothing). Profit (a lot).

Watch the 28 to 30 mil ticks come in, tell your corp mates in local who are using carriers and moms with fighters, fighter bombers or sentries who are making 21 to 35 mil ticks after (in the moms case) having spent WAY more and watch them go WTF lol. You can repeat the same thing in ANY space with Havens, if using a mach, Angel Havens are of course the best.

Go try this Goose, then come back here and tell me about your Thanny lol.
