The PlayStation 4 is well underway and it seems it now has a name, it will be called Orbis! What’s more it will hit the shops in 2013 in time for Christmas. That’s according to one source, which claims the PS4 will play 3D games in full high definition, not offer backwards compatibility with PS3 games and feature anti-pre-owned technology.

I wonder how this changes things?

Changes.... hahaha... it was planned. There are secret black boxes out there and the specs to go with them for the developers. And so my plan is in my budget to buy one.

I'm not concerned because of

PS3 will stick around a bit longer as fans will have a hard time stomaching that last one. It'll take a while for full acceptance among the type of players who like EVE.

As has been stated for about a year now Dust is a download only game, and that when the PS4 is released they'll port the game over to that platform too with the upgraded graphics and such.

PS3 was also able to play ps2 games, for about 2 months, then they scrapped the tech.

or +2 Dust moves to PC platform and everybody wins.

Lets face it, bringing it to teh PC is the only way a great many of us will consider playing it. Im not buying a £190 consol to play it, especially give that the consol has a limited lifespan before it is superceded. This doesnt happen to PCs, tehy can be upgraded.

Trust me, I almost know what I'm doing.

Is it sad that I'm still thinking about buying a PS3 for it?

1: Dust uses so much licenced tech, it doesn't matter because you just have to click on the 'compile to PS4' button and you're done.

2: The day the PS4 gets released [and I baulk at 2013, more like 2015, as per prior announcement by Sony] the PS3's currently owned around the world don't suddenly dissappear or explode.

3: You can still buy a PS2 today, brand new, from Sony.

I'm more concerned about whether the gameplay of Dust will be any good when using a controller, as this is all that truly matters on consoles.

Pretty sure dust will be ported on PC one day, exclusivity at release doesn't mean forever nowadays.

Obvioiusly, you're buying a PS3 for use as a media center and the ability to use it for Dust is just an added benefit Blink

Sure you can, but how many "hardcore" gamers do that? ie. the target audience for dust

It *looked* comparable to pretty much any other console game in terms of fluidity/responsiveness.

...which makes me balk, since I play PC shooters. I hope the mouse/keyboard support is y'know...good.

If I'm being honest, in many respects the game looks very similar to console Black Ops (to me, not a *great* thing, as I'm not a big fan of consoles OR CoD, but not a terrible thing either...I've liked other, similar shooters on consoles, provided it was played over a LAN)

This is highly unlikely.

Sony has CCP in an exclusive consul deal for a good reason - http://www.planetside2.com/

I'm not so sure... Maybe I was just reading too much into the wording of CCP's slide that said, 'Exclusive launch on the PS3.'

This is exactly what will happen. Its a free to download game, you buy new console just download the new client. And thats not assuming it just has straight out of the box compatibility with PS4.

You'd probably even still be able play with PS3 users until the platform was obsolete.

Zero to worry about.
