The evolution of virtual worlds is happening today

Despite the sillyness, spite and vitriol of the last few days, it occurred to me today that we are all sharing a front row seat in events that may shape how human beings interact in virtual worlds from now on and into the future.

Though human rights on planet earth have evolved over hundreds of years and millions of man hours of legal work, we are seeing the same processes tested in virtual environments over a matter of days. How will the law makers react?

If events in a virtual work can have real life consequences then is a virtual character to be considered as an extension of real human being in that it directly communicates for that human being, much as a human brain transported into another body would do?

If a human being can be physically or metally harmed by his interactions within a virtual world then is it possible to commit human crimes in a virtual world and what protections should be extended to citizens in virtual worlds?

Yet again Eve pushes the envelope and writes itself, its developers and its players into the ongoing and emerging evoution of virtual worlds.

Actually it is more about business and making as much money as possible. Thus they have to keep people happy, by pretending to care, so they can keep their investors happy. See how that works? Human rights and digital morality has very little to do with it, although it may seem otherwise.
