I think this comparision is worth an examination.

He didn't threaten the wis, he simply encouraged some mild harassment (what some of you like to call cyber-bullying).

I don't think he's talking about the ingame char.

You might take into account CCP is complicit in Mitt's drunken tirade. According to the media laws in Iceland, not only are they complicit, they are legally liable for having allowed Mitt access to their media to perform his tirade. What makes it difficult for CCP is it can be well documented that they knew what sort of person Mitt is, and they found him amusing. It can even be said they encouraged him to do what he did. CCP can't afford to pretend EVE isn't real. In the eyes of their local constabulatory, EVE is very real. So are the behinds in the sling. Think about it. They ban Mitt for life. Mitt sues. Boom

This is why you exercise CONTROL. Once competant authority peels back enough layers, they'll come to realize CCP has only exercised token control and in very arbitrary ways. This adds up to IRRESPONSIBILITY, something the authorities frown upon.

Suffice to say CCP is now engaged in damage control 'cause they let their little attack puppy off the leash.

Also like in all social circles, Fame Matters.

When you play EVE for years you will find out that a lot of people are addicted to this game and play EVE for a living. Some put a huge and insane effort into a second virtual life. I am 100% sure that these guys take such a call extremely serious. It's like working in creative business. Skills and talent will become be a part of your personality the more successful you are. If you fail at work you might get depressed because you believe that work, skills and talent are the most important thing in your life. A char, the ISK and all your stuff in EVE have a value. They are not pure virtual goods for free. EVE is not a game. EVE is work. And the more you play and work for it, the more you collect and the more you are a part of the community or finally a leader of a corp or big alliance the more this game will mix up with your RL-personality and you start to fly to Island to behave like a celebrity.

nobody threatened to find or disclose the RL identity of The Wis

One was a threat made that he will find the person in real life, which is a crime.

Another was mockery and goading people to harrass someone in game.

In-game threat about real life consequences vs Real life comment about in-game consequences. People lie about killing themselves often, most don't follow through. People tell others that they don't like that they should kill themselves all the time, or drink bleach, or play in traffic. Why is this different? Because the person claims they are unstable, we should tip toe around them like walking on glass?

I'm sensitive to people disagreeing with me and I'll hang myself if someone does!
