If you are thinking of purchasing EVE Online today is a great day to do it. Steam are currently having a sale where you can purchase for $6.80 with 30 days game time included.

And yes, you can use the CD key from Steam to upgrade your existing trial account. I just did it myself to confirm it works.

  • To get your CD key (after purchasing EVE via Steam) in Steam go to Library -> Right click on "EVE Online: Incarna" -> View Game CD Key. Copy it to your clipboard by clicking the button.
  • Log into your EVE account and go to Account management - EVE Website -> Account Management
  • Click "Activate a Code"
  • Paste your CD key in and click Next. A confirmation screen should appear.

Note that this claims to add the 30 days onto your trial which it appears to have done for me (I have 42 days play time).

Also you do not need to re-download via Steam for this to work.

Just remember - do NOT use steam key to upgrade buddy invite 21-day trial, because then your inviter do not get his reward. (And cant give anything to you incase he promised some reward when you do upgrade.)
