Something really weird going on right now...

So right now I'm running EvE in windowed mode on my other monitor... The problem is the FPS is a normal 60 then for 5 Seconds it drops to 30 and stays there... Then goes back up to 60. This happens every 10-15 seconds.

I searched the forums over and over and all I found was to disable AA, update video drivers...., clear the game's cache, etc....

I have done all of these and nothing helps.

Core 2 Quad 2.8ghz
4gb ram
4870x2 2gb video card

Another weird thing is that when I open another EvE window on my main monitor.... Both games drop to 30 FPS at the same time and then back up to 60. It is really irritating and causes some lag when playing. Anybody have an idea whats going on?

It could be a heat issue. Try cleaning out the dust from your case and off the fans, heat sinks etc...

Edit: And check your cable connections (internal) while at it.

I'll give the computer a cleaning but I don't think that is the problem.

EvE runs fine in Fullscreen mode and more graphically intensive games run perfect.

I can't use fullscreen with dual monitors thou :\

I disabled windows Aero mode when I run the game. Hopefully that fixes the problem.

So far so good... but I'm not getting my hopes up... It sometimes doesn't occur only to come haunt me another day or even 5 minutes later >.>

I assume you are using current drivers? If not update if so, in the past I've seen people roll back the driver and be okay.

Are you using the overclocking option in the ATI drivers?

Disable it if you do, or enable just for sh!ts´n giggles.

If you mean ATI overdrive.... Then yeah...

Disabled it.... No dice :\.

The only way it works is if you turn off window Aero theme... Which is weird... but atleast it fixes the problem.. Nothing gone wrong so far. :)

this is one of the issues when using vertical sync. when FPS drops below 60, it instead goes all the way down to 30 instead floating about on 40's or 50's.

it's not a NV or ATI exclusive issue, it's actually how Vsync works.

Turn off VSync.

Edit:

VSync is a function that tries to synchronize the drawing of an image on the GPU with the drawing of an image on the monitor.

So for every monitor screen refresh the GPU draws one image. This prevents 'tearing' - The drawing of half of one frame and half of the next since it is not synchronized with the monitor refresh (which is usually 60 hz, or 60 refreshes per second, on modern monitors).

If the GPU cannot make the 60 frames per second quota and so is in danger of not drawing a full frame for one refresh, it dials down to a lower framerate. Since it cannot draw one image per refresh it has to take 2 refreshes per frame - In other words, 60 fps becomes 30 fps, since 60/2=30.

If your GPU is at the limit of what it can do at 60 fps and keeps dialing down to 30, try dialing down the graphics options a bit if you want to keep VSync on and prevent tearing. Otherwise, simply turn off VSync, you will notice that your fps probably fluctuates between 40 and 80 or so, depending on your setup.

If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all...
