The only reason Jita is a major trading hub is because players made it one.
Stuff could be bought and sold anywhere, but because it is Jita, that is where the most targets will be.

You all do realize that if you don't have "bad guys", then you won't have "good guys" either right?

You'll end up with a bunch of useless handshaking muppets. I personally have never been affiliated with the Goons, have fought them on occasion, and have seen their "antics" first hand. I didn't particularly care for their personality traits as a whole, and for awhile kind of even despised them...

But holy hell, some of you peace loving empire dwellers are advocating genocide of the Goons. And we are supposed to belive that YOU are the righteous ones?

If you run into more than 2 a**holes in a day, you should probably look in the mirror.

Lots of logical fallacy "slippery slope" posts.

Goons are not the only "bad guys" in Eve. That's ridiculous to assert.

Goons are an organization based outside of Eve whose purpose in life is to make life on the games they play miserable for everyone but members of their own group. Their agenda is contrary to the TOS and amounts to cyber-bullying by their own leader's admission. They want to see as many people banned as possible. They want to destroy the economy if they can. I'm all for pvp in every form imaginable. However, when their goals are clearly prohibited by the TOS and contrary to the basic elements of the game itself, why should CCP sit back and pretend they deserve legitimacy?

I have no problem with a group that wants to crush their enemies in the game, rule the universe, or even just have fun being asshats. But these things seem secondary to the Goons primary goals in Eve. They are “an alliance based around (f’ing) with people…what some would call cyber-bullying” according to their own leader. The alliance was, “shaped for the infliction of misery”. One of their stated goals (hopes) is to get players “banned for life”. Their latest goal is to “ruin everything” by ruining Jita.

How does this help make Eve a better game?

Lets ask the marketing department what they think of the actions of Goonswarm over the years.

You may not use “role-playing” as an excuse to violate these rules. While EVE Online is a persistent world, fantasy role-playing game, the claim of role-playing is not an acceptable defense for anti-social behavior. Role-playing is encouraged, but not at the expense of other player. You may not create or participate in a corporation or group that habitually violates this policy.

For example, griefing as many people as possible with the intent of making them so angry that they violate the EULA so they can be banned for life.

this is the best pro-mittens post I have read all day.

Princess Bride's piece relativizes The Mittani's actions by putting them into one logical context with actions and behaviors that are widely regarded as crucial for the niche success of EVE - all the while the author maintains the sarcastic pretense of supporting CCP in this discourse. The revelation of CCP's hypocrisy in its actions towards The Mittani is all the more scathing for its supposedly inadvertent nature. Masterfully done.

Non consensual PvP in a game based on non-consensual pvp isn't "griefing".

The eve definition of "griefing" has supported this since the game launched, and fools like you have been exposing their ignorance on the forums for about that long.

Shush, you silly girl.

How is setting out with the purpose of getting random players banned legitimate pvp? How does that help Eve?

As you and many others were so quick to point out, Mittani's actions and the consequences that followed were his own fault.
So to, is it the fault of other players who say/do things that go too far and get banned for them.

I see a distinction between someone who acts stupidly of their own accord (The Mittani) and someone who was intentionally pushed over the brink via harassment. Especially when they were harassed with the primary goal of seeing them break and provide an excuse to get them banned.

It's like a bully who pushes a kid repeatedly until they finally turn around and pop the bully in the nose. Then the bully runs to the teacher and tries to get the kid expelled for punching them.
