Is anyone at CCP getting punished over this? I didn't see the guy with the mohawk doing anything to intervene. He could have at least killed the audio or something. I guess it wasn't a big deal to them until the gaming press made a stink about it.

Put yourself in CCP's shoes. Do you allow the guy who 25% of all votes to continue to hold his position in the CSM at the expense of possible lost revenue due to bad press?

Cyber bullying is a MAJOR issue in the US right now as such CCP will have to do everything it can to protect its bottom line even if it is against what the users of their product want. Unless, of course, the users can make that the bigger revenue loss.

Since you decided to put on the serious pants I guess I will too. Trolls ingame do this kind of stuff all the time. Hell, I've gotten death threats from people I've scammed. But they didn't get 30 day bans.... Now. I don't condone asking someone to kill themselves because that's flat out wrong. But, I know far too many people who would take enjoyment out of trolling someone into thinking their suicidal.

So you then realize why Mitanni had to be banned or removed from CSM. You yourself said that telling someone to off themselves is bad taste...

I agree

Bad taste yes. even he agrees that it was in bad taste. Now I don't know what CCP was expecting to get out of a live - drunk - mittani. He wasn't going to be church clean. Now, that was all in person, violating an ingame EULA. Last I checked, the EVE EULA doesn't apply to everywhere else I go....

Not everywhere, just when you're at EVE sponsored event's, speaking about eve, to a audiance of eve players. When CCP takes the time to fly you out to their place.. You fall under some unsaid rules.. like common courtesy and not abusing their kindness or taking it for weakness.

Honestly this does make me question whether I'll make it next year. I like to mock people I've scammed and tell glorious stories of grief and ragemails, especially in person.

Not sure if I want to risk an in-game ban for laughing at some poor soul I griefed into ragequitting (life?).

Can't wait to dual box my Dust toon and EVE toon on the same machine!

Dont do it on a live stream as a member of the CSM on a panel.

This isnt hard mate.

No seriously, think about this. Someone just got banned for saying something out of game. He did nothing that breached the EULA whilst playing.

Courtesy of the EULA:

Quote:
C. User Content
The System may allow you to communicate information, such as by posting messages in chat rooms, on bulletin boards and other user-to-user areas (collectively, "User Content").
User Content that you cause to be communicated to the System may not (i) violate any statute, rule, regulation or law; (ii) infringe or violate the intellectual property, proprietary, privacy or publicity rights of any third party; (iii) be defamatory, indecent, obscene, child pornographic or harmful to minors;

Fanfest is a user-to-user area. It's a CCP event for EVE players broadcast by CCP to the EVE community via CCP's systems.

I was threatened with a ban for asking people to "boo" someone on the message board, that's not "in-game" either, but the EULA covers the usage of the message boards as part of the EVE ecosystem, which also covers EVE's fanfest.

And he's not at all the first person to be banned for something they did "outside of game."

EVE is real life, just look at how all these pubs post. I'm pretty sure I violate the EULA several times a day in my life out of game, just having to drive in traffic alone has me yelling an in a rage. Gee I hope I don't get banned.

You should all delete your characters.

The problem I see is that this game is now going to go to **** because everyone will be filing petitions about someone saying something bad to them, that hurt their feelings and therefore has to be punished. So I am guessing no more high sec war decs. They make me upset and not want to play the game. CCP f..ed this one up.

The EULA says CCP is responsible for reimbursing you for exactly **** all. So yes, you may apply the EULA to your phone situation.

it always was....

Something like this has never happen before at fanfest. You people are acting like what he did was part of normal culture of the game that is eve, but that doesn't make sense. If that was true, then why is this the very 1st time the rule was broken? Something that what he said is UNCALLED OF, for a game like eve.

It's just a game, you don't hate the other person in real life. even if you hate his character.

Honestly, no one would have cared had the gaming press not been involved. But with Monoclegate still on everyone's mind, the threadnaughts that came with it, they can't afford the bad press this would have given them.

Leadership is something you learn. Maybe one day, you'll learn that.
