The only 2 ships in the game that should ever fit beams are the nightmare and the paladin which can both fit tachyons to good effect.

Whats the best ammo to use with these on a Punisher or should I be using lasers on a punisher?

I know that there is a school of thought out there that prefer to use projectile turrets on the punisher.

Discuss?

I am working towards a Harbinger as my cruiser and may load out my Coercer for missioning and rat hunts.

scorch for range
multifrequency for close targets
maybe have conflag, which is even better for close range but would only work vs bigger targets, so if you web a battleship conflag should hit very well.

Punisher isn't very good with lasers as it doesn't really get any benefit to using them, as opposed to Projectiles or Hybrids.

except the ability to hit at 10km. or even 15. and less cap usage
where as blasters are what 5km-10km? and have to use way more cap to fire.

Punisher's base velocity is way too slow for it to be an effective kiter, utilizing the range that Scorch might give it.

scorch on a punisher makes it miss other frigates

What about a destroyer fit? Assuming, of course, that you have ever bothered to unpack your destroyer.

As you can tell I am relatively new and fly Amarr warships. So, what are the pros and cons of Pulse and Beam lasers. Which has the best DPS and puts out most damage?

Also, gatling vs normal?

Pulse are higher DPS with shorter range and beam are lower DPS with longer range. All the races have those same two versions of their weapons. Autocannon/blaster/rocket = pulse. Artillery/railgun/missile = beam.

Beam lasers are generally unused for most PVP. There are some exceptions with larger ships but for frigate sized pvp stick with pulses.

You could build a lolfit beam slicer that does 110 dps @ 50 km. It'll pop if you sneeze too hard, but it's possible.

Raise you a LOLfit:

[Coercer, Paper Lasers]

145dps at 57km optimal. 60km targeting range. 15 EHP (ok, 3.6k, but srsly).

For PvP, you'll want pulse lasers. The only exceptions are mega beam lasers or tachyons. You'll know when you need these. If in doubt, fly pulses.

AC puni vs laser puni is interesting. The AC puni tracks better, has better cap, more fitting space and (usually) a better tank. The AC damage type and tracking means they'll usually do more damage too.

So why fly lasers on a puni?
1. Roleplay reasons, you 'want' lasers
2. Scorch. With the AC's you run the risk being kited inside scram/web range, scorch will remedy this. Problem is, every frig that can kite you inside web/scram range can close in and outtrack pulses.
This reasoning also applies to the punishers bigger brothers: Prophecy and Maller. Both of those are also arguably better with AC's than with lasers.
