Subject to all USA laws abroad.

there are federal cyber bullying laws.

Just saying.

Too bad the federal cyberbullying laws that haven't been overturned by the courts only apply to school children. Besides, if anything this would have to be a civil case, and even then that depends on the wis proving he was suicidal at the time and not just making some pity argument to get some sort of compensation for his in game losses.

It would be pretty easy to get a group of people up there and not come to a consensus on whether or not it was just some drunken joke, or an actual intent to inflict harm. IF what he said was subject to cyberbullying laws, chances are, we could lock up a whole shitload of comedians. Hell lets throw Kevin Smith in jail too for putting a movie out about a couple of goons who kick the **** out of kids who bad talk them on forums. I mean hey, even if it is fake, the implication is still there.

Nothing legally or civilly could ever come from this. If you tried, any competent lawyer would get it laughed out of court faster than it would take the judge to sit down and gavel into session.

And here in is the proof the the ultimate danger of what he did. Look at the mentality of the goons in these threads.

They would have followed through with what the mittani said in a heartbeat if not for the backlash that came out about it.

In which case they would have all been banned. Fortunatly goons are not that stupid and understood it was a joke.

Erm, the "something horrible" he apologizes for was mocking the miner at a live event and giving out his character name. He never claimed to have serious intent behind it.

He at no point said that it wasn't a joke or anything other than mocking.

But yes, he freely admitted that his mockery at the event was past the line.

It's doubtful he has a criminal case here. However, he does have a decent civil case that can be filed in the US.

The internet is not America. Sorry to break it to you.

Sorry to break it to you, but this didn't happen on the internet. If both the plaintiff and defendant are US residents, there will be no problem at all filing a suit in the US over something that happened abroad. Not really sorry to break that to you.

Technically, there's enough material to just go Patriot Act on Mittani and hold him indefinitely without trial

.... land of the free indeed

Yup. Well, with more and more dangerous materials and weaponry becoming easily accessible to the common man, we can expect that excuse will always be used to serve an expanding surveillance society

From what I've seen of them off and on over the years, I don't think the leadership will change the goons as a whole. Every MMO I've seen them in, they act the same. Different leaders, same MO. They will go on without the mitanni if something were to happen to him. I mean, it is probably a given that the most that will happen is that he won't be on the CSM. They wouldn't ban his accounts. Who knows, maybe his wife will give him enough bullshit that he quits on his own and turns over the ownership of the goons to someone else who will just do the same thing.

I don't see the goons being hurt at all, or this creating some mass exodus from the game.

I agree, the goons will go on, but they won't be happy if he's removed from the CSM. Unhappy goons best goons.

When csm8 comes around, they will just nominate someone else, and here we are again.

Isn't there a second person on the group that is part of their alliance. If that's the case, what would they lose?

Did you read anything the OP has written, or are you just another bandwagon jumping anti-mittens forum warrior?

English is clearly not the OPs native language. While that doesnt neccessarily mean he is not a US citizen, it is incredibly likely that he is a foreign resident. And as the 'victim', it would be either Icelandic law or the law of his country of residence that would be invoked in the unlikely case that this is brought to court.

OK.. I really do not know what to say. I am at a loss for words with all that is going on.

I guess I should say that this is not about someone alt in eve.
This is not about someone losing isks they worked for.
This is not about someone losing a machanaw in the game.
This is not something I started. I was really shocked to see the video monday night when I finaly had time.

This is all really about a person that is over joyed in making some one hurt as much as they can in real life not in game.
Going by his power point I have to say he thought about it long before getting drunk.
If thowing my name out there was something he planed to do or not that I can not say, and we will never know for sure.
But when reflect the way he talked about my mail. I am sure that was an option he was holding on to and tossing up becouse he was really enjoying tomenting someone.

I am sorry this is not the alt in the game that is talk but the person playing the alt.

There are allot of people out there that have real life problems, but they are warned when they join Eve. Whats said and done in the game doesn't bother me, its all part of Eve.

To me this **** got real and hurt full when I watched a video where a complete stranger urged other complete strangers to try make me kill myself.

The Wis

Here's a thought, no matter how hard anyone can try whether or not you kill yourself is completely up to you. It has 0 to do with The Mittani or anyone else in Eve. Stop acting like you're powerless and he or anyone else here some how has any influence over you. How about you quit insulting the rest of us by making light of the one thing everyone holds dear. Life. Quit playing around with it, dangling it for attention, just get over it and live your life and PLAY A SPACESHIP GAME.

Yes, and read further where he explains what he did wrong that went over the line.

Care to quote the part that states he did anything other than mock Wis and give out his characters name. He acknowledges that this mockery at a live event was waaay over the line.

Thats it. There was no "according to Alex (the RL guy) it wasnt a joke" involved, you simply made that part up.

To a point. I said earlier I believe this issue is between CCP, the Mittani and The Wis. The Mittani is a ****, no arguments there. His Goon pets without any behavioural inhibitions are doing a fantastic impersonation of showing us how little humanity they have. I don't think the Mittani will command the same respect as he had before, but that is a personal opinion.

The Wis has conflicting stories, accept an apology and massive ISK donation and still seems put out. It's hard to understand what is going on in his head, hard to understand why. And not really my place or anyone else's place to try and use him as a sockpuppet against the Mittani.

But, if he spoke out and told CCP and the Mittani what he wants - maybe that will help with a resolution. For example, he might say he does not want the Mittani to resign and that he accepts the apology. He might say he wants a Fanfest style broadcast apology. He might want a new character with the same skillpoints and stuff to escape all this attention.

And what he wants out of it should be the end of it.

Many of you will be shocked to hear that even if the very worst case scenario ensues (Mittens out of CSM + banned from eve) we will probably get a thread about it on our forums where Mittens passes off leadership and then we move on as if nothing has changed.

It is however cute that slot of people are convinced that we will all quit or something drastic when this probably happens.

Most of the crap in this thread is just us enjoying the mock outrage from the playerbase over something dumb. It's really entertaining to see you all squirm over internet legal BS and suicide jokes and it's going to be even more entertaining to watch Darius's hopes for a second shot at the CSM chair get shot down. Don't worry Darius, you'll still be the worst guy on the CSM, nobody can take that from you.
