I think the solution to this next year is to do it exactly the same way it was done this year, and then publicly and swiftly warn and stop everyone who crosses the line (line being set by CCP), and ban everyone who does not heed the first warning. That will show both the player community and everyone else that we actually care about behaving like human beings towards each other even when drunk. Berating and humiliating rival players can be done off-stage in pubs, if it really is necessary to do at all. :)

This is the issue. CCP needed to do something visible. If nothing happens thats pretty much the end of CCPs credibility.

It's pretty clear that, at the very most, he's going to be stepping down from the chairman position while staying on the CSM

Why would i be proud of this at all. I shouldnt even have ever had to think about this being a thing I would have to worry about in EvE online. That someone at a live event would tell people to harass someone till they kill themselves.

No, it's not. Well, not, if I am counted among the idiots (reported for flaming, btw).

I think I'll make a separate post about it, but what I want is an EVE where scamming, baiting, blobbing, ganking, trapping, and using clever tricks is still allowed, where we can have PR wars and gloat on locals about how wonderful players we are, and where there is no guaranteed safety and total opt-out of pvp. I also want an EVE where it is not acceptable behavior to point and laugh when someone is obviously RL upset about losing, to use stage time in a CCP event to humiliate and berate your rivals rather than talk about what you do well, or to flame people on the public forums, and where racist/sexist/homophobic slurs are grounds of immediate warnings and bans.

I do not see those as contradictory. I doubt most of the community does.

You know Im wondering if other countries have had the recent high profile cases and publicity we have in the UK.

Cyberbullying, troll threads, hate websites, facebook sites,abusive tweets, teenage suicide have all been really high profile in the uk the last six months, Hell theres was a primetime BBC program about a radio presenter getting trolled and the legal cases surrounding that case. THe Muamba case, the Facebook troll. I think that publicity may have hardened some peoples attitudes over here but dont know if other countries have had the same kind of cases?
