What if instead of stations, we docked ON ........

At least Elite 3 (Frontiers : First Encounters) had docking in planetary bases (hangars) and open starports.

That was the thing I missed when I started EVE Sad

Yeh considering EVE universe is apparently filled with 20W machine oil, I doubt realistic physics and aerodynamics is even a consideration on CCP's part.

So yeh, lol @ people saying it wouldn't work cause EVE ships can't maintain altitude in an atmosphere

There should be a rather awesome pic here

But what's against launching a ship line that actually could do that.

Story wise easy to explain...

Or add a T3 only subsystem...
" atmospherical shielding/navigation/landing "

" ship with added capebility to navigate trough / around planet atmosphere"..

The idea or possibility to land on a planed is hunting me since day one Blink
The fact that Tritanium is unstable in oxygen environment actually is very good since it gives us the reason to create new ships which are build from different materials... and ta-da.. EVE already has meny types of planes. That means we have a good place where to look for these "new" materials. I can not imagine better way to begin a good trading between planets (DUST) and EVE (us).
It would create an industry nish for DUST and also for EVE players automatically.

I bet entering planets atmosphere ... docking ..etc would be really awsome experience Big smile

Imagine... planetary mining ships, outposts... a real need for hireing DUST mercs to secure the sector/planet ...etc etc etc

... ok, I better stop here or my head will expolde from ideas Shocked

PLANETS!

Especially if we're manufacturing DUST items and want to sell them on a planet.

Not that I manufacture anything - I don't. I just want to be able to press the LAND button.

IS THAT SO MUCH TO ASK????? (trololol)

No but really, I really do want to experience those things.

This is correct.

The thing I have always wondered about this, if tritanium is so reactive to oxygen, why don't EvE weapons expose this oxygen weakness? For instance, missile warheads that create a cloud of oxygen around the target ship, causing the ship to instantly explode as the hull reacts with the oxygen?

I can think of two good reason. First is that the weapons of EVE are actually very powerful. An anti-matter slug is going to do much more than cause instability in the hull. The second reason is, that while minerals are used in the construction of the ship, the ship is not made from minerals. Meaning you can't build a spaceship directly from minerals. You have process them further to other materials before you can build a spaceship from them and those materials have their own unique properties, like not exploding when put in contact with armospheric temperatures.

Yeah.. well ... If landing is just for "to look at" than IMO it`s a poor reason to ask CCP to implement that.

The oxidation of the Tritanium in the composites doesn't happen instantly either. It's possible the oxidation takes hours.

I doubt the aerodynamics of the ships would be an issue, the MCC in dust isn't exactly very aerodynamic either, and I'm pretty sure whatever manufacturing process that goes into building eve stuff changes the explode-with-oxygen property of tritanium, unless you all think that the dust stuff are going to be built with special minerals :P

Well then. Now that you all have sufficiently sh*t on my vision, I hereby demand a new class of ship. =)

Edit: After all, I presume people get from the surface to planet in some way or another.. Whats the opposite of a drop ship?

How about a planet to planet hauler with smuggling option?

If tritanium + oxygen = bad ... wth do our crews breathe?

I was going to make this post about how ships dont have heat shields either, then I didnt. But yes, your ship would act like a boulder.

I dno about you, but my ship rolls with 85%+ thermal resistance. That counts as a heat shield right?Roll
