See now I am torn: I decided to throw most of my votes in your direction and a lesser part in Hans' direction, but now I see the results I should have done the opposite...

Meh.

Congratulations on your re-election. I hope you'll edit the CSM minutes again this time, you did a wonderful and very good job at it the last time. ^^

Now get to work, show you earned those votes. Twisted Drink a beer or a shot for each vote more than last year!

Congratulations sir!

Thanks everyone for your kind words.

Alphea, I was sorry to see Hans get pipped for 8th. But he may well get to go to a summit, and if he lives up to expectations, he will be a very strong contender for top 7 in CSM 8.

One of the interesting things about CSM evolution is that given how much more daily interaction we have on the forums and skype channel, the summits are not as important as they used to be. You don't have to go to a summit to make a real difference.

If you don't believe me, go ask Two step. Twisted

At this point, I'd almost say Hans was over-hyped, to the point that people thought he would be a shoe-in for a top 7 spot and spread their votes out more than they should've. What a cruel world we live in.

this is it

no troll question
now that you've been elected, there's a small matter of formality
are you a wis incarna space barbie lover lisping emote lover?
a simple no would do, thank you.

Hi folks,

I've taken the time to write a blog post about why I evemailed people.

I realized that this was a calculated risk when I did it, but I thought it was an interesting maneuver. And you have to admit, it's added some drama to the elections.

When all the votes are counted, I'll let you know what the estimated effect was.

It seems you've been too busy to live up to your earlier promise, so I decided I'd give you a helping hand.

Results of CSM6:
Quote:
3,306 Trebor Daehdoow

Results of CSM7:
Quote:
3,184 Trebor Daehdoow

That would be 122 votes lower and a drop from 4th to 5th place.
Taking into account the growth of Eve playerbase and the increase in voter turnout, I would interpret these results as a drop in popularity. You'll be well advised to carefully plan your tenure in CSM7 and your next election campaign to increase the percentage of your voters.

Also, looks like spamming isn't such an amazing solution after all. Granted, I got my share of lulz from the rage and butthurt in the posts of your new personal stalker Professor Alphane. It was hilarious to see how seriously some people take themselves and how much genuine lustful hatred they put in someone sending them unsolicited mail. But if you actually hope to win the <3 of the crowd, you will do best to devise a better method of agitation.

None of this was intended as sarcasm or mockery. I actually voted for you and I'm glad to see you elected. I just want to see you make it to the future CSM as well.

PS --
Last time I heard, if you're a sociopath and encourage socially challenged Eve players to kill themselves, you get 10,058 votes. Imagine if you tried this, with your age and social status. It would be even more exotic. The horde of self hating lemmings would throw themselves at your feet, for sure.

I think you needed to link your blog post in this thread, if only to ensure that everyone who read your earlier commitment follows through and reads the update. But that's really not a major issue

See, I found and read your post before you replied. Admittedly, I read it after I posted here, but in retrospect it really isn't relevant. Your post looks nothing like a genuine analysis, but more like an exaggerated attempt at rationalization and justification of your actions post factum.

I would much rather not delve into this in depth, but these are the main points

Arrow You refrain from discussing your rate of votes compared to previous CSM elections.
This comparison reveals a gradual attrition in your voting rates and the decline is best shown when examining percentage of the total vote pool, rather than simply counting votes.
Arrow Your "math" is very heavily based on far going assumptions that you have no way of verifying.
You flaunt 718 as excess of votes above the "Iceland treshold", and 600-900 which "you think is a reasonable estimate" of votes you received solely due to the evemail campaign, stemming from the total of 1020 clicks on your voting link from the in-game browser (such click does not constitute a vote). Ultimately you admit that "we will never know" if you really needed those votes.
Arrow You surmise that the spam-campaign was a "safe bet", hinting at Jester's analysis of the "zero sum" vs "Pareto game" analogy.
TL;DR version: "I don't worry about a bunch of people hating me, as long as they all either (a) weren't my voters to begin with; or (b) would switch to some other candidate I like".
With much due respect to both you and Jester, this approach completely overlooks the long term dent to your reputation, something your many opponents will happily exploit.

1) I don't have good comparison data with last year. Sorry.

2) I admit that the data is spotty. Such is life.

3) Even assuming that the mailing did damage my electability going forward, before that is a problem, I first have to achieve a good result in the current election. There is a saying that "a week is a long time in politics" -- well, the next elections are a year away. Twisted
