at eve's annual fanfest a certain clan/guild leader happened to encourage cyber bullying.. he went so far to even name someone who was (or so he claimed) was socially unstable and that he should be bullied into suicide. CCp has launched a full investigatyion. it doesnt help that this clan is well known for having scammers, trolls and a variety of other scum and villany in its ranks.

as of this morning the guild leader had made an open apology.. but i feel that this punk should lose his guild/clan for this.. not like they were being very productive anyway by the sounds of things noted above:

Truly, the blogospheres are buzzing and twitting about this massive online scandal.

I dont deny its a terrible forum post on gamespot amongst the other 24000 hits that search will bring you. However it comes to somthing when WoW are laughing at our playerbase not the other way around. Thats what the chairman of the CSM has done, exposed us to ridicule by WoW. It will get worse if he now fails to do what he claimed he would and resign.

Way to both move those goalposts and not have any idea how google generates search results!

Your argument has literally devolved into "The Mittani should resign because there's a thread on the WoW forums about us."

No no you misunderstand me sir. The fact that WoW are laughing at us simply makes the situation worse. HOwever I think he should resign because what was said was utterly stupid, offensive, potentially dangerous and simply way past the line. The fact that the gaming press and blogospheres as you cutely put it are buzzing is obviously an issue that heightens the odious comment made at fanfest into the larger gaming community. Alexander wanted a high profile and did just about everything he could to get himself into the gaming press. That profile means his actions have repurcussions. Im pretty sure there were many drunken offensive comments made at fanfest. The difference is the profile of the offender guves it more publicity. He has done some really good things for Eve and Im happy to say that but if he tries to continue in his role on the CSM, then he, the CSM and the playerbase will suffer. He will become a lame duck chairman with no credibility. Are the gaming press going to give him a platform to air his views on Eve when gaming forums are touting him as a cyberbully? nope they arent. Sometimes you have to take you medicine no matter how foul it tastes to get better. If he wants to retain his credibility and at some point regain the profile he has worked so hard to cultivate then he should resign. Then we can all move on.

Being somewhat new to EvE I'm sure most will dismiss what I say as they will think it's from someone who really doesn't know the history behind Goon and their leader. Honestly that would be completely true, however I also think that makes me pretty objective as personally I could care less one way or the other if the guy stays or doesn't.

With that said this is only my second post on these forums. In my first post I actually stated how I thought highly of the Goons for the simple fact that everything on these forums seems to find it's way into a discussion about them. That to me is power. Love them or hate them you have to respect the influence they have in this game.

To me this whole situation is crazy. In a way that's a good thing b/c the entire reason I even wanted to try EvE was b/c I visited massively.com on a daily basis and reading about all the cut throat scams that go on in this game just made me want to try it. Sure this game is NOT real but it is in my opinion the closest game I've ever played in relation to how "real" it feels.

Goon has been good for EvE. Again I don't have much info to back this up but just judging from things I have read I'd say they are responsible for a good portion of the player base as well being responsible for bringing guys like me to the game who love reading about their accomplishments.

With that said I believe CCP is in between a rock and hard place here. Make no mistake if this had been ANY other EvE player they would have been banned already for crossing the line between in game harrasment and real life harrasment. In fact I doubt there is any online game in existence who wouldn't have already bounced the person in question.

I don't know this Mittani (sic?) in game or in real life in anyway at all so I can't judge where I think his heart is. I have always been taught to give people the benefit of the doubt so with that said It's my belief that he is sincere in his apology. However part of me can't help but feel that maybe if he is not sincere it's simply an attempt to convince CCP not to ban him from EvE.

So what does all of this rambling add up to?

In short I think if you combine both possibilities there is no other answer but for CCP to ban the guy. I hate saying that but it's just simple. Even if he is sincere and remorseful that should not remove the consequences of his actions. You cannot break a law and say sorry judge and expect not to be punished. If he is not sincere then well it's fairly obvious he should be.

Just my 2 cents (or should I say 2 dollars) and sorry for the long ass post.

Ahahahaha, you think that wow players don't already laugh at spergy space ship nerds, as much as we laugh at generic elves in slutmail?

Meanwhile everyone in real life doesn't know we exist and or is laughing at us both.

In quite possibly the most hilarious piece of puffery in this thread, Broneck Squad wants to talk about credibility.

No matter what happens, you do know you're not going to be Chairman, right, Darius? NDA breaches are still serious business, even if you got away with it the last time.

lols are you accusing me of being Darius? thats uber funny. I have no political axe to grind nor do I personally have any issue with the goons. Im happy to acknowledge the good stuff done in the CSM by all the delegates last year.

As for hilarious puffery you clearly havent read the OP in that you get puffery and pomposity wrapped up in fake humility, its much more amusing than mine.

I was trying to really, really sarcastically imply that not very many people outside of eve-o forums care. You seemed to miss that.
And the rest of your post past that seemed to more or less be gibberish about how nobody will listen to mittani about x thing being bad or good because he got drunk and made an ass of himself that one time.

My, my, what a threadnaught this turned out to be. You guys are really this upset about a game? Even a metagame at that, you should all know when to log out and go outside for a bit. I hear that the US is thawing out now, bloody seasonal changes and all.

(shrug) It may impact how we are perceived by the rest of the gaming world, but there isn't anything we can do about it now. The barn doors are open and the horse is gone. Besides, in six months he's going to be joking and bragging about how he got away with telling his alliance to kill the guy.

I do hope CCP bans him. Not for what he did....

....but what an emboldened mittani is going to do next.

This.

I like the Mittani, I like the crazy arrogance, I like that he is the most powerful player in EVE.

However, CCP has to distance themselves from this sort of thing, they have to ban him. It's business.

What will really be interesting is if The Mittani gets banned and tries to retaliate. Are EVE and CCP strong enough to survive the wrath of the game's most powerful player?

Its about someone taking the game into real life with real life consequences.

Basically what the Mittani did at fanfest.

Indeed.
Mittens is cool with me, the guy didn't kill himself. Who opens their heart to someone on EVE and expects an honest answer? You told MITTENS, king of the TROLLS, that you were suicidal? oh boy. Twisted

"Oh, you ganked my Mackinaw, I was already going through a divorce. I can't handle this!"

Left himself open to be trolled. What's the moral of the story? Never give anyone dirt on you.

I guess if ccp ban him for "calling for the harassment of a player until he kills himself if that is what you want to do" some will be happy, if they do not ban him then ccp is telling everyone it is OK to ask others to help you harass someone until they kill them self . seems simple to me

True, but the good of the game... not to mention the welfare of the non-victim... are the furthest thing from the minds of the self righteous mob.

There was no crime committed, no harassment done, and depending on whatever agreements panel presenters need to agree to (if any) and your interpretation of CSM duties and responsibilities quite possibly no rules broken (this wasn't done in game or on the forums).

So there you have it, a bad drunken joke that nobody took seriously (including the non-victim) and a possible EULA violation that might warrant a temp ban. An apology was made, restitution offered and accepted between adults, and a review being conducted to see if any official action is needed.

However that won't slow down this train wreck in the slightest. The spot light is on and everyone wants to stand under it.
