Update 1: Based on these suggestions that you have all posted, I have another question.

How come many miners insist that despite these precautions (which I confirmed work due to the views of actual miners), CCP should still make it nearly impossible to be suicide ganked?

Because it's usually easier and more profitable to complain to the developers to get the game changed instead of adapting to difficult situations. Especially when you're a coward.

I wrote some true EVE stories! And no, they're not of the generic "my 0.0 alliance had lots of 0.0 fleets and took a lot of 0.0 space" sort. Check them out here:

Because suicide ganking is stupid and undermines the realistic/serious air that EVE is supposed to have. If you want to disrupt a hisec mining operation it should be through the marketplace or through a war dec. That would be my reason. The real reason is people are lazy. Also they want the higher yields so they take a gamble with their fitting. Also they don't want to buy anther account just to train up a gangbooster to use while they mine hisec rocks. Theyd rather have a second hulk pilot.

My fool proof method to insure I will never get ganked again while mining was simply drop my acct that I used to mine. Haven't been ganked in a belt since then.

If I were still a miner I'd mine with a fully tanked ship, survive the gank while all others in the belt die and then mock them.

This actually sounds like fun, maybe I should try it.

So recently, I was watching a TV series on bluray and put one of my characters that happens to fly a hulk into a belt in the meantime and for the first time in 7 years of playing this game, there was an attempt to suicide gank me.

No - I didn't watch local as it was in crowded highsec and I was doing something else.

The bugger didn't even manage to get through the shields of my hull-tanked Hulk.

Sure - if someone wanted to really gank me, it wouldn't be a problem, but I conclude that most of successfull suicide ganking happens against min-maxed mining alts devoid of any tanking skills and fitted for maximum greed.

If I could remember the gankers name, I would reimburse his ship.

1)Tank build your ship for EHP, and dont fit for cargo.
2)knowledge of the system you mine in, target rich envirnoment? at least make sure you have juicier targets next to you.
3)Observation check D-Scan, Overview, Local.
4)Locations set up bookmarks, dont just mine at the beacon of a belt. Align your ship to a exit point, again setup bookmarks.

Not 100% going to stop a good ganker, however will at least help you avoid the bad ones, or at least reduce the chance of.

Sadly this only reflects the ineptness of gankers.

Which makes the claim that ganking occurs in highsec even less plausible. Even carebears can protect themselves against rats ffs.

Nerfing High-sec is never the answer. It is the question. The answer is 'YES'.

Probably people getting a friend and buying them to blow up for KMs.

Sacrifice 200m ships for killmails? You sure about that?

EHP: ISK ratio is perfect for such whoring.

What are you....poor??

ISK ratio is irrelevant when your three hundred Hulk kills don't even put you in the top 10,000 on BC.

Also, you can't have rich people without poor people. If everyone's rich, then killing/losing Hulks becomes irrelevant as well.

Maybe it's just my e-honor, but if I cared about killmails, I wouldn't fake them. Defeats the purpose of feeling that you've accomplished something.

Eve-kill awards only one measly point for any carebear kill, so killmail whoring is really not much of an incentive there.

(For comparison, ganking a T3 with ten guys awards about 220 points.)

If you are all about the e-Bushido I agree. But not everyone cares about bushido. It is a competative game and 4-5 200m destructions can keep your kb stats from dropping when you lose a t3.

Besides. :activitylog:

EDIT: lol point systems..... srs? Who the hell pay attention to those LolLolLolLol

My alt's corp took the following steps to lower the number of mining ships lost:

1. Told miners to stop mining in high traffic systems.

2. Told miners to find mission sites and grav sites to mine in.

3. Counseled people on how to tank mining ships.

4. Counseled people on who the local gankers were.

5. Sent out RR ships with miners for some ops.

This eliminated most of the problem but not all of it. We can't eliminate it totally.

Most of the younger pilots think suicide ganking is stupid and don't understand it. Older pilots just see it as a fact of life. We do not tell people to come and whine on the forums. What good does that do? People choose to mine and have to accept the risks.
