Nope not lynch mob mentality

Lynch mob mentality is saying lets go harasses this guy until he kills himself for real. "OH i was just joking, even though hes dead I didnt really meant it. ""I was jut going along with eveyone else officer" would have been the next tag line and CCP closing its doors due to criminal investigations.

I highlighted three words.

At the very worst you could say he was releasing information that would facilitate in-game harassment, which means he was giving someone else the means to violate the TOS, but in doing so violates no law himself. But here's the thing: he never actually says "go and harass the guy."

I know facts are inconvenient to you buttercup (and your anti mittens rhetoric before the elections was all over the place, BTW) but you can't simply put words into someone's mouth and expect him to be punished on what YOU keep saying he said, despite it being a falsehood.

So yes, making something up, spreading it around and trying to force action against it based on lies is a pretty good modern definition of a lynch mob / witch hunt.

I certainly agree, there is no need to want to try and drag CCP through the ringer, this was not of their making it was mittani's and he is the one that needs to take ownership of it.

Trying to damage CCP via Sony just hurts us the player base even more then what mittani has already done. This is why the CSM needs to act swiftly and not delay to bring this sordid affair to a close.

I find it hypocritical however to try and defend mittani and the attacks if that what you want to call it on him as that's Goons bread and butter and always has been they want to "ruin your game"... that's what they are about, that's what the presentation was about and that is what mittani is about.

Problem is he crossed over the boundary of whats acceptable in our online reality and into our real lives, now he has to own up to that which he is doing a rather good job of so far from what I can tell, a much better job then his supporters and defenders. He at least recognises the harm he has done and that it was wrong and that he needs to make it right.



If you are going to quote it, quote the full thing in context... the part that does the damage is the two words there after where mittani quite clearly and purposefully tells people "FIND HIM!".

I highly disagree with the intentions that requesting this info is for. But the Goons and other players like them have sort of brought this behavior on themselves with the constant **** on everyone you can actions. There are going to be people that are willing to burn this game to the ground in order to exact some kind of revenge. Its really sad but they will do everything they can to make it happen.

Based on whose interpretation, of what law?

I will remind you that there are many, many controversial political pundits, politicians, journalists and comedians who have said a lot worse than this. You may want to note: none are in jail. This would be because it is not illegal to offend someones taste of decency.

If Mittens had stood there and said:

- I want this guy dead, make it happen
- Here is his in game name, find him and make him die
- I am not joking, he should actually die

Or anything of the sort, I would NOT be defending the man.

I am defending him because words matter. I am defending him because context matters. I am defending him because the allegations being made against him are wholly inaccurate, are lies, or are intentionally worded in a manner which leaves the wrong impression DESPITE his actual comments being publicly view-able by all.

You're very right, the spirit was clear. Clear to the goons listening, who promptly did nothing. Clear to the players listening, who promptly did nothing. That's why he didn't get harassed over this, and why this was a complete non-issue until a few days later when someone smelled a metagaming opportunity.

No, he really wasn't. At worst he was inciting people to grief an in game character whose out of game person was suspected of having suicidal tendencies at one point. You are cheapening actual cyber bullying and attempted murder for the purposes of meta gaming.

Well first of you are wrong plan and simple plenty of people have been jailed for inciting hate crimes, including inciting others to cause harm. Plenty of Political figures have also lost their jobs and faced criminal proceeding over similar gaffes.

The loud and manic manner is which he proclaimed "Find HIM" is a clear direction to cause harm. Lets be clear no one has taken office as the presentation itself mocking this person, the offense is of the declaration to cause this person harm. Which is quite illegal in many many countries including the US and Iceland.

I suggest you actually do a bit of research on that score. The context you also need to focus on a bit is the fact this isn't joe average or some shock jock who doesn't claim to represent anyone other then themselves. This is the CSM Chairmen who stands up and says I keep CCP accountable and I represent the entire player base.

but really we can cut all that out, you say you are defending him and that is your right, but have you stopped to consider that mittani himself has clearly come out and said it's not defensible? Maybe he just understands the higher virtues in play then his would be defenders.

You should not be under the impression that he actually seeks to learn and understand why what Alex did was so bad. He has no interest in the truth. He is part of the goon cult mind as near as i can tell.

And liang yes i do think he didnt care that he would cause possible IRL harm to someone. Thats why he needs to step down from the CSM now.
