The EVE UI Team started by showing a video with their Past, Present, Future & Fantasy UI work to give players a good understanding of their mindset and what they had achieved and tried out in the past few months. Then they opened the floor for discussion from the players about their ideas and viewpoints of where CCP should be taking their EVE UI development in the near future. The EVE UI Team wanted players to elaborate on what type of UI mattered the most to them, what they thought its visual style should be and what areas of the game they thought CCP needed to focus their efforts the most.

We will bring you more details on what was decided in future Dev blogs from the team.

Can confirm the above statement. It'll take some time for official videos to be uploaded so stalk this guy:

He's uploaded at least some of the presentations so far.

what they should have done is allow segmented streams after fanfest, i wouldnt have minded if this was only available in HD / Premium stream, I know if this was a feature I would have signed up for it. Unfortuatly its a bit sloppy in having to get players to rely on other players to upload to youtube as well as having the issues of not been able to hear peoples questions from the audience.

All the presentations at fanfest were great. They each had more than a little bit of awesome. Based on what I saw, there is a lot to be excited about, for every type of EVE player.

But I must say that I'm most excited about what I saw in the UI portion of the "future eve" presentation. From the target-in-picture to the potential revamped tactical overlay, it has the potential to increase EVE's sexiness by a large factor.

Watching the stream, there were a few times that I heard one of the hosts (I think it was CCP Sunset, but I was drinking heavily...) mention that all the presentations will be uploaded to Youtube on CCP's official channel sometime "next week". Last year it took CCP like 80 days to upload fanfest, so here's to hoping the hangover doesn't last that long this year...

EDIT: Also, OMFG damage effects! missile launchers! V3! Stealth Bombers! OMFG too much awesomeness...CCP you've outdone yourselves...

Frogblast the Vent Core! When the W'rkncacnter came, Pthia was killed, and Yrro in anger, flung the W'rkncacnter into the sun. The sun burned them, but they swam on its surface.

Audio cues for important things should also be considered, such as Aura announcing "Warp drive disabled" and "Warp drive online".

Glad to see you´re not only aware of the problem but also very much prioritizing it.
"Eve is hard" doesn´t mean EVE has to be as confusing as possible.

The current "Space OS" we have posing for an UI is indeed the biggest obstacle to new players.
Together with the right-click orgy.

Can´t wait for the new UI DevBlogs. As already mentioned during Fanfest, a good UI isn´t an option it´s a matter of survival.
For CCP and us in the game. Straight

There was a screen shot of new UI in the CCP presents, it showed the new UI design.

shield animation is sweet is SWEET!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9Ozvef7CvQ&feature=player_detailpage#t=7113s

localized ship damage is SWEET!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9Ozvef7CvQ&feature=player_detailpage#t=7155s

tactical view is SWEET!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9Ozvef7CvQ&feature=player_detailpage#t=7192s

small window of the selected Item you are shooting at is SWEET!!!

but the brackets around the targets and the HUD does not really feel like eve anymore... too shinny, not much of a spreadsheet-like anymore...

but me like shinny... Roll

one more think to add
the overview has this "rounded" edge on the left which makes the window unnecessarily bigger, and the window real estate being tight might not be that necessary to have that round fancy shiny stuff...

Here are screenshots of the UI that was shown during some of the keynotes at Fanfest.

UI and shield effects

New tactical overlay

UI and ship destruction effects

I really hope we get something like this in the end, as what's featured in those captures looks very sleek and futuristic. I'm especially a fan of changing the look of the overview and the picture-in-picture feature. Torfi said that, currently, there are performance issues with the PiP feature, but I hope those issues are ironed out.

Hopefully the new UI will have cool animations and sound effects. The current sound effects are somewhat grating. EVE's sound design and effects in general could use an update, I think. Also, I hope the new UI reduces the excessive amount of clicking required for performing tasks. There's a lot of work to be done here.

Thanks for posting these images. The picture-in-picture feature was one of my favorite concepts from fanfest so I'm bummed to hear that it has technical issues holding it back. The rest of the UI in those images seems to be pretty much exactly the same as what we currently have (from a functional standpoint) although I do like the new sleeker look.
